    KEY ATTRIBUTES

    The ideal candidate will be someone looking for the opportunity to ignite student curiosity, collaboration, and innovation through the implementation of our upper school science program. This teacher will forge close relationships with upper school students, families, and faculty to facilitate meaningful scientific learning experiences that promote student agency and creativity, as well as key 21st century skills, knowledge, and dispositions.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Our Upper School Science & Inquiry Teacher will:

    • Lead by example, following the school's Faculty Characteristics of Professional Excellence and the guidelines put forth in our Faculty Handbook.
    • Embrace and live out the school's mission and educational philosophy.
    • Provide oversight in regards to the science curriculum in grades 4-6, ensuring alignment with the Next Generation Science Standards and ISTE's technology standards.
    • Develop and implement dynamic units of scientific inquiry. Engage in continuous assessment to track student achievement and to address the individual needs of various learners. Communicate openly and generously with parents and partner collaboratively with colleagues to maximize cross-curricular learning opportunities.
    • Engage students in real-world problem-solving units of inquiry wherein they can learn and apply the scientific method and make valuable contributions to the community's body of scientific knowledge.
    • Model humility, playfulness, flexibility, and resilience as a lifelong learner, enthusiastically engaging in ongoing cycles of goal-setting, research, application, and reflection.
    • Commit to cultivating a community where all members can enjoy genuine belonging, where diversity is cherished and students can see their great potential in the adults around them, in the books they read, in the lessons they learn, and in the fellowship of the larger church-school community.
    • Attend to the broader needs of the school community, including, but not limited to, participation in school professional development initiatives, community events, service and outreach opportunities, committee membership, parent and faculty meetings, and other commitments as requested by the Head of School. Our Upper School Science & Innovation Teacher has:
      • A bachelor's degree in elementary education, science, or a related field
      • Relevant certification in education
      • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills
      • Strong written and communication skills
      • Strong cultural competencies
      • Knowledge of digital apps and devices that support teaching & learning
      • Familiarity with the basics of coding, robotics, 3-D printing preferred
