OHSU Casey Eye Institute's faculty are responsible for many of the most recent advances in ophthalmology, which have revolutionized the diagnosis and treatment of many ophthalmic conditions. Advances in optical coherence tomography, ophthalmic informatics, corneal refractive, retina and pediatric eye care have been pioneered at Casey.

    This position is for a postdoctoral scholar who will support and help lead multiple AI and imaging projects within the Casey Eye Institute. This involves working closely with other Casey clinicians and researchers to perform image processing and analysis, design research studies, implement analytics platforms and algorithms, create and administer informatics research databases and image repositories, and develop classification and predictive machine learning models. This position requires at least 2 years of experience developing machine learning models and/or image processing and analysis. Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate professionally, clearly, positively and effectively is also required.


    Design and develop innovative machine learning models and applications using a variety of languages, frameworks and methodologies (e.g. Python, R, MATLab, etc); Develop systems that interface with a variety of standard and proprietary data sources from various retinal and corneal imaging devices; Learn additional languages, frameworks and methodologies quickly as projects require.

    Create tools for analyzing the ophthalmic imaging data to improve their clinical utility.

    Help support CEI researchers' AI and maching learning projects by providing consultations on study design, data access and analysis, and basic code development. Other tasks projects as assigned; this may include change in projects, technologies, and collaboration supporting other imaging projects at CEI.

    Produce manuscripts and presentations for disseminating results of studies.


    Doctoral degree in mathematics, computer science or engineering or related field.

    At least 1-2 years experience developing data-driven applications with Python.

    Experience with development of image processing and analysis plugins with Python. Ability to independently train and develop machine learning algorithms.


    MD or PhD degree with experience in image analysis, processing and machine learning.

    2 years research experience. Experience with python for data analysis and statistics.

    Experience or training in artificial intelligence based segmentation and enhancement of images, predictive modeling based on imaging and other relevant clinical data. Clinical experience with retinal and/or corneal disease.
