    JOB SUMMARY

    This position is responsible for functions of the Perioperative Services areas in keeping with the overall policies established by the Governing Board, and in compliance with regulatory guidelines. Provides leadership and direction, ensuring the efficient, economical and effective utilization of facility resources to meet the identified needs of the patients and physicians utilizing the services.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Is responsible for the overall day-to-day operations of the perioperative areas.
      • Develops departmental policies and procedures.
      • Organizes the functions of the department through appropriate delegation of duties.
      • In collaboration with the CNO, develops mechanisms to motivate and reward support staff, as needed, to assure a high level of productivity, motivation, and optimal utilization of resources.
      • Facilitates interdisciplinary collaboration in the planning and delivery of patient care.
      • Facilitates and mains compliance with standards, regulatory and best practices in perioperative care.
      • Enforces compliance with Universal Protocol and its practices.
      • Ensures all staff receive orientation to the policies and practices in the Perioperative department.
    • Functions as liaison with medical staff and facility departments.
    • Ensures compliance with all regulatory agencies governing healthcare delivery and the rules of accrediting bodies by continually monitoring department's operations, programs, and physical properties.
      • Reviews and acts on reports of authorized inspecting agencies and/or accrediting bodies.
      • Initiates changes in policies/practices or physical plant, as required.
      • Monitors and reports compliance under the direction of the CNO.
      • Ensures compliance with current infection control and perioperative standards and practices.
    • Establishes and participates in committees designated for performance improvement, infection control, professional ethics, nurse staffing and policies and procedures established by the hospital.
      • Ensures appropriate departmental representation on various multidisciplinary committees.
    • Ensures that department operations are conducted in accordance with established fiscal/physical resource guidelines.
      • Utilizes available staff to provide patient care on a twenty-four (24) hour basis in compliance with standards established for patient care and within budget guidelines.
      • Submits records, reports, recommendations, proposals and/or alternatives for planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluating fiscal/physical management.
    • Demonstrates the spirit of the philosophy, mission, and values of the hospital through words and actions and implements them into departmental processes, programs, and the working environment.
      • Applies the principles and values of customer service and continuous quality improvement while performing day to day activities of the position.
      • Maintains and protects confidentiality regarding all aspects of patient care, personnel and strategic issues. Adheres to Confidentiality Policy.
      • Maintains positive working relationships and fosters cooperative work environment.

    Qualifications

    REQUIREMENTS
    • Minimum of five (5) years' experience in an operative setting with progressively increasing managerial responsibilities
    • RN-Texas Lic
    • BLS - American Heart Association
    • ACLS and PALS certification required
    • Bachelor's Degree in Healthcare or similar OR equivalent in work experience
    EDUCATION

    CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE
    • RN-Texas Lic
    • BLS - American Heart Association
    • ACLS and PALS certification required
