THE POSITION

The Maintenance and Custodial Department of the Pennsylvania Soldiers and Sailors Veterans' Home, one of six residential long-term care facilities operated by the Department of Military & Veterans Affairs, is seeking custodial staff for our Maintenance Soldiers Sailors.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

Custodial workers are involved in routine manual work in public institutional buildings and surrounding grounds. Work involves the use of custodial supplies and modern cleaning equipment and may involve the moving and lifting of heavy furniture. Work is performed in accordance with a well-established routine and is subject to inspection to meet standards of cleanliness.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment
• Work schedule: 2nd Shift, 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM, every Friday and Saturday off, with 30-minute lunch period.
• Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

• No previous experience and training required.

Additional Requirements:

• You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

• Experience as a custodian, janitor, or cleaning person in an assisted living facility, nursing home, or hospital is preferred. (Experience might include such things as cleaning restrooms; cleaning resident rooms, offices or public areas; mopping, scrubbing, dusting, sweeping, buffing, etc.)

Legal Requirements:

• A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
• This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
  • Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
