    Project/Unit Description The Albuquerque branch of the Advanced Concepts Laboratory (ACL) is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Archivist
    The Advanced Concepts Laboratory develops tailored solutions for a broad range of national security challenges through disciplined application of physics- and effects-based modeling to realizable systems, augmented with prototype development and testing
    ACL's research thrusts extend across domains, and include bio-, chemical-, RF-, and optical-sensor physics; materials science and engineering; electromagnetic theory, computation, structures, and measurements; electronic warfare techniques and applications; operational scenario modeling and simulation; traditional and asymmetric threat analysis; and ground maneuver warfare
    Job Purpose The Archivist position focuses on the development and operations of archives and special collections
    Sets direction for a variety of projects involving digital and physical artifacts by researching new and emerging trends in the industry, suggesting and implementing improvements to archival processes, procedures, and workflows, and implementing new technology as appropriate
    Requires knowledge of archival and digitization best practices, digital forensics for current and obsolete media, and records management
    Also requires familiarity and experience with exhibit design, warehousing practices, security, and facility management
    Contributes to sponsored projects and can be responsible for hiring and employee appraisals
    Key Responsibilities Perform tasks with limited direction; Develop expertise in special collections and archival practices; Contribute to white papers/reports/presentations
    Additional Responsibilities


    • This is a full-time position focused on assisting the Head Archivist in the development and operations of a physical and digital archive of science and technology resources accessible to a select community

    The Archivist:

    • Helps coordinate all operations required for a large archive of unique artifacts, documents, and media.
    • Helps lead a team responsible for the life-cycle management of science and technology resources

    May lead projects related to the ingress, preservation, organization, digitization, accountability, and accessibility of all collection items including artifacts, documents (paper, photographs, negatives, microfilm, etc.), and modern or obsolete audiovisual and computer media.


    • Researches and reports on new and emerging trends in the industry, suggests and implements improvements to archival processes, procedures, and workflows, and implements new technology as appropriate.
    • Researches and reports on the development and implementation of best practices for work scopes, procedures, policies, and overall strategic planning for a collection of classified materials.
    • Assists with the development of the growing archive team through teaching specialized archival skills.
    • Assists in conducting tours for visitors, helps with search requests lead by Subject Matter Experts, processes materials for preservation and access, contributes to exhibit design, the creation of oral histories, and more.
    • May supervise one or more Digital Projects Specialists
    Required Minimum Qualifications


    • Working knowledge of best practices for preservation of archival records, including documents, artifacts, and media.
    • Experience capturing and/or imaging obsolete audiovisual and computer media formats.
    • Experience with item-level cataloging and writing finding aids.
    • Ability to obtain and maintain DoD TS/SCI Security Clearance Preferred Qualifications
    • Active TS/SCI Clearance
    • Familiarity with digital forensics.
    • Exhibit design, including physical design and writing museum labels
