Serve as the subject matter expert and technical leader for Data and Cloud Engineers for a broad range of data platforms, from cloud native services to SaaS data platforms, tools and internally developed data applications.
Responsible delivering highly scalable cloud, BI/Analytics, ETL platforms, including developing and scaling custom, open-source solutions supporting the requirements of business partners.
Lead tool recommendations, standardizations, simplifications, migration approaches, including technical design, proof of concepts and cost benefit analysis. Mentor and lead team members developing enterprise data framework or applications.Drive End-to-end solution delivery involving multiple platforms, technologies, and tools with medium to large complexity. Oversee critical parts of large complex implementations. Drive continuous improvement including performance, capacity, security, functionality.
Partner with Enterprise Architecture, Infrastructure and Data Platform Architects to lead the design and implementation of data platforms and perform analysis of existing OOB and custom products, platforms and tools, resolving any technical questions or issues.
Influence platform strategy, evaluate, recommend, and influence all data platform technology decisions.Evaluate and assess commercial products and open-source tools and frameworks and take accountability to deliver highly scalable data platform services.
Regularly conduct market research to maintain understanding and awareness of emerging data and analytics technologies, tools, techniques, and frameworks.Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree with 7+ years of software development, infrastructure, or data engineering experience leading Technical Teams.
5+ years of leading developing and operating production workloads in cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred, Azure, etc.)
Proven experience in software engineering, with software development life cycle (SDLC) and knowledge of agile/iterative methodologies and toolsets
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Strong Technical Knowledge and understanding the core concepts behind Cloud data platforms, open-source data frameworks, BI/Analytics, Data Warehousing, Data Lake, ETL etc.
Hands on knowledge working with Python, PySpark, or Terraform.
Ability to understand and align technical deliverables to the departmental and organization strategies and objectives.
Leader and a team player with transformation mindset.
Product and platform engineering mindset, to prioritize roadmaps, define features and capabilities, definition of done and ability to present to executive leaders both within the Enterprise Data Services organization and to business partners.
Provide thought-leadership to dynamic and collaborative teams, demonstrating excellent interpersonal skills and time management capabilities.
Planning, organization, compromise, and risk mitigation
Industry awareness about evolving design patterns for Cloud and Software-as-a-service provider-based solution integration.
Critical thinking and creativity for optimized solutions
Hands on expertise in DevOps practices, technology solutions including maturing CI/CD in both cloud and data platforms.
Experience with FinOps including KPIs, cost modeling, show/bill back, cost optimization and automation.
Hands on experience in observability/telemetry, testing automation, SRE principals driving high level of automation and continuous improvement in internal customer experience.

AWS expertise:
AWS Solution Architect Professional, Data Analytics Professional, Data Engineer Associate etc. certifications preferred.
Hands on experience with data platforms, ETL, BI/Analytics tools including Informatica, Snowflake, AWS EMR or open-source tools like Spark, PySpark, Hadoop etc.
Experience with large-scale cloud and data platform design & implementation
Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market.
Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role.
The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition.The annualized base pay range for this role is:
$148,320 - $222,480
