    The Qualus Director of Engineering is responsible for managing, supporting, and providing direction for the engineering, survey, drafting and other supporting staff.


    This position is specific to the western region of the Qualus engineering team and will be based in Reno, Nevada.


    The team in the Qualus Reno Office includes high voltage substation and transmission line design, distribution and fiber design, utility survey, project permitting, and general utility consulting.


    Our focus is on utility, renewable energy and utility development clients, and we pride ourselves in providing high quality engineering.

    The leader we are seeking must have excellent communication skills to manage the western region team which consists of both physical western offices as well as a strong remote staff.


    The leader will be responsible for managing the western P&L and will have direct oversight of client development and management.


    Responsibilities:

    The successful candidate will:


    Participate or oversee recruiting, selecting, orienting, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising, and reviewing job contributions; planning and reviewing compensation actions; enforcing policies and procedures.

    Work with each direct report to develop and guide career development plans that will inspire employees to achieve their best results and provide a roadmap to their advancement.

    Develop and nurture client relationships to ensure continuous clientele growth and loyalty.

    Continue to expand clients throughout the west through work with the Qualus Business Development team as well as their own client development within their network.

    Encourage and train staff on client development.
    Develop proposals and train staff on proposal development to ensure a strong responsiveness to RFPs.

    Ensure that each proposal is responsive to the scope of work, while ensuring that the Qualus goals and legal requirements are met.

    Oversee project deliverables to ensure that the high standards of quality are achieved and that the required quality control is implemented within the engineering project teams.

    Participate at a Director leadership level with the other engineering leaders to ensure a cohesive teamed approach to company growth and engineering development.

    Work across regions to balance resource management as possible.

    Seek continuous means of growth and development throughout the western region to expand the Qualus footprint and depth of service offerings.

    Perform as a problem solver of staff, clients and the corporation as a whole.
    Experience with both utilities and developers with preferred experience specific to utility facilities.


    Qualifications:
    Bachelors degree in engineering (Civil or Electrical. Mechanical will be considered based on experience).
    Eight (8) or more years of utility engineering experience is desired.
    Professional Engineering registration preferred.
    Industry recognized or plans to gain industry recognition through conferences and Professional industry organizations.
    A valid drivers license and acceptable driving record are required.
    Must have strong analytical and computer skills.
    Must have strong written and verbal skills.
    Must be a proven leader.
    Strong collaborative nature with ability to think creatively and out of the box.
    Strong ability to effectively communicate with a wide variety of support personnel.
    Strong commitment to customer service and care.
    Highly motivated "self-starter".
    Clear and proven decision-making ability.
    Proven multitasking skills.
