    PT - Upward Bound Summer Camp Instructor, Temporary

    SALARY:

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    Required:


    • Bachelor's Degree in Elementary or Secondary education.

    • Experience working with middle and high school-age students.

    Preferred:

    • Have overcome barriers similar to those faced by program participants.

    • Experience with Upward Bound and/or Talent Search programs, or other programs focused on students who are low-income, first-generation, or academically disadvantaged is preferred.

    • Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds.

    Additional Eligibility Requirements:

    • Arizona State Certificate in appropriate discipline and teaching experience.

    Classification:

    • Non-Exempt

    Position Type & Work Schedule:

    • Part-time (seasonal)

    • Hours vary, up to 30 per week

    • Work flexible schedule to meet program objectives as needed

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Knowledge of and ability to follow college policies and procedures

    • Knowledge of current technologies and word processing, database, presentation, and spreadsheet software, specifically Microsoft Office applications

    • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, and to relate to others in a professional, helpful manner

    • Demonstrated ability to coordinate, organize, and communicate with a diverse population

    • Professional experience with confidentiality and the handling of sensitive information

    • Experience with Microsoft Office 365 products

    • Ability to translate strategy to action, work effectively in ambiguous situations

    • Work collaboratively with others

    • Excellent customer service skills

    • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer

    • Prolonged periods of standing

    • May lift, carry, push, and/or pull moderate to heavy (at least 25 pounds) amounts of weight

    SUMMARY OF FUNCTION:

    The Upward Bound summer camp curriculum is outcome-based, student-centered, and rigorous in all academic core courses. Service learning projects, cultural activities, and on-campus work-study will support the academic curriculum. To ensure success, teachers will work collaboratively across disciplines. Teaching staff must be available for five weeks in June.

    TYPICAL DUTIES:
    Serves Students. Develop and teach curriculum for diverse learners. Work with students possessing a variety of knowledge and skill levels. Provide a respectful, multicultural, cooperative learning environment for students with diverse backgrounds. Prepare and deliver the curriculum. Work cooperatively with other teachers to prepare and implement outcome and inquiry-based curriculum. Teach and mentor students.

    Individualize instruction as well as provide group and experiential learning instructions. Be able and willing to use computers, PowerPoint, and software such as word-processing programs, spreadsheet programs, and internet browsers in classroom teaching.

    Assess, evaluate, record, and report student performance. Prepare pre and post-tests. Attend weekly staff meetings.

    Support and participate in strategic initiatives and perform other duties as assigned.
