The Director of Nursing is a Registered Nurse that understands and supports the philosophy, policies and procedures of Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

The Director works collaboratively to produce, nurture, and sustain a professional practice and healthy work environment that affords and enhances patient care effectiveness and efficiency through leadership to multidisciplinary teams, effective physician relationships, and a shared vision and dedication to the future of Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

Nurse Directors have 24 hour/7 day per week accountability for the overall supervision of unit Leadership, all Registered Nurses and other Healthcare Providers in the area under their direction.

The Nursing Director leads and has accountability for the planning, developing, implementing, evaluating, and monitoring of process improvement, budgets and allocation of resources, continuous quality improvement initiatives, and professional governance to achieve departmental and organizational goals and objectives.

The Director is also responsible for recruitment and retention, performance reviews, professional development, and delivery of nursing care for designated area(s).

Experience/Qualification/Licensure
Master's Degree in Nursing, Business Administration, or related field required or actively in pursuit of a Master's Degree.
Bachelor's in Nursing required.

Five years' progressive experience as a staff nurse in an acute care facility, knowledge and expertise in area of application, and competency in critical thinking and prioritizing skills in previous employment situation necessary for patient care and management functions.

Previous experience in the supervision of personnel, evaluation of the quality and appropriateness of nursing care, budget preparation and resource utilization required.

Possesses an active Wisconsin nursing license or compact.
Current BLS certification or obtained within 90 days of hire.

This position is Full Time; 1.0 FTE. Exempt.

is the flagship of the Aspirus system that serves patients in 14 counties across northern and central Wisconsin, as well as the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

It is a licensed private/not-for-profit facility with 325 beds and staffed by 350 physicians in 35 specialties.

Aspirus Wausau Hospital is a Level II trauma center that provides primary, secondary and tertiary care services as a regional referral center.

Specialty referral service emphasis exists in cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery, orthopedics and cancer. The hospital has an average daily inpatient census of 220 with approximately 15,000 admissions per year. Outpatient visits exceed 50,000 and there are also more than 24,000 annual emergency department visits.
