    Description

    We are looking for a temporary Legal Secretary to join our team in the Legal Division within the Director's Office.

    The Legal Secretary is responsible for supporting the mission of the department by serving as the administrative assistant to the Chief Legal Counsel, and by providing administrative support functions for the Legal Unit.

    This position will also assist with general office support for the DEQ Director's Office, as needed. The Legal Secretary exercises initiative, judgment, and excellent customer service in performing high-level administrative duties for the department.

    The position performs a variety of functions related to program support such as managing case correspondence, sorting incoming and outgoing mail, scanning documents, tracking and calendaring due dates, arranging travel, monitoring and ordering office supplies as needed, coordinating conference rooms, and greeting visitors.

    Preferred candidates will have knowledge of legal terminology, records management, case management, and docketing. The position will work closely with DEQ paralegals and will support the Directors Office Support Coordinator as needed. The position reports to the Chief Legal Counsel and does not supervise others.

    You would be a great fit for this position if you are proficient in :

    This position is not to exceed June 30th, 2025, at which time the Department will evaluate the need based on available funding.


    • High school diploma or equivalent, preferred post-high school education or training.
    • Several years' experience in administrative support as a legal secretary or executive assistant, or in a closely related field.
    • May require current valid Driver's License and clean driving record in accordance with State of Montana Vehicle Use Policy
