We will foster programs in the areas of basic, translational, mechanistic, and population research.

    Position Summary

    The primary purpose of the Research Technician will be to provide assistance to experienced researchers in the laboratory. This will include reagent preparation and equipment maintenance. This position will be responsible for instrument sterilization and assistance in small animal procedures and cell line maintenance. Animal husbandry duties will include general maintenance of mouse colony and associated records.

    Overall laboratory maintenance includes inventory of supplies and records, restocking reagents/supplies, and ensuring that the laboratory equipment, including common equipment and work spaces, are maintained in a clean and orderly manner.


    The individual will also be responsible for: preparing reagents, dilution of solutions, cleaning glassware and surgical instruments, and transporting tissue samples from the operating room to the laboratory.

    This position requires accurate record keeping and maintenance of laboratory notebooks.

    Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

    Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.

    Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

    Candidate should have basic knowledge and skills and general understanding to perform standard duties related to the research. Knowledge and skills to use instrumentation and equipment.

    Ability to work with animals and provide routine care, maintenance and/or animal husbandry. Ability to prepare study subject for experimental procedures. Ability to apply and maintain sanitation and safety procedures. The candidate should know how to observe, collect, and record a variety of data.

    Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

    Prior experience with research, knowledge of scientific terminology, and knowledge of laboratory safety preferred. Initiative and collaborative work ethic highly desired.

    Candidate should be able to relate positively to staff both within and outside of the Division and have ability to work with a variety of professionals.

    Required Licenses/Certifications Special Physical/Mental Requirements


    Ability to, with or without accommodations: work in temperature extremes (32F to 100F) for short periods of time when required due to assignments in cold rooms and/or warm rooms; perform repetitive motions when pipetting liquids or performing sample dilutions; move materials up to 50 lbs.; and perform with a high degree of accuracy.
