    Project Overview

    Bechtel is the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) partner on the Northrop Grumman team to deliver the Sentinel Program, which is modernizing the ground-based leg of the U.S. nuclear deterrent triad, including intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) systems and launch infrastructure. Bechtel's scope of service in Sentinel's current Engineering & Manufacturing Development phase focuses on the ground infrastructure component of the program.

    A major contractor for the United States and allied governments, Bechtel has handled such efforts as chemical weapons demilitarization projects, missile-defense, infrastructure, base operations, procurement and project management, and restoration and recovery spanning half a century. We use our expertise to help our customers securely and effectively transform mission delivery.

    Position Summary

    Has technical responsibility for interpreting OSHA requirements, evaluating, and applying appropriate health and safety principles, plans, and methodologies suitable for achieving and maintaining compliance with requirements. Provides technical assistance to other safety professionals, construction, subcontractors, and start-up, with the goal of zero-accidents.

    Responsibilities

    • Provides technical support to safety studies, health assessment studies, and project risk assessments.
    • Coordinates safety requirements with subcontracts, engineering, and operations personnel as assigned.
    • Provides safety technical support and assistance to construction.
    • Participates in meetings with customers, project team members, and contractors/subcontractors to advise them of safety requirements that may affect project design, schedule, and cost.
    • Drafts ES&H procedures, risk reduction plans, safety awareness training, and technical reports.
    • Conducts safety inspections/assessments of project construction activities to monitor compliance with applicable safety and health requirements including contractual commitments, permits, and the project's ES&H procedures.
    • Calibrate and use safety and health instrumentation, recording data in accordance with records retention policies and procedures.

    Qualifications and Skills

    Basic Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in Environmental, Safety and Health or related science/engineering from a regionally accredited college or university, or in lieu of degree, 6 years of relevant work experience is required.

    Additional Qualifications

    • Knowledge of safety and health procedures, engineering systems, principles, and methodologies.
    • Knowledge of national safety laws/regulations and regulatory agencies' processes and responsibilities, industry standards/practices for safety and health compliance, and best management practices for minimizing potential safety risks during project execution.
    • Basic knowledge in air sampling and use of direct reading instruments.
    • Knowledge of construction systems, methods, and work processes.
    • Experience in managing and/or providing technical oversight of safety and/or health.
    • Knowledge of planning, procedures, and execution in a highly regulated environment.
    • Knowledge of hazardous materials and physical risk exposures and Personal Protective Equipment standards.
    • Skilled in oral and written communication (bilingual ability a plus).
    • Has obtained or will obtain (within a year) a professional certification from an accredited organization such as a CHST.
    • Has obtained an OSHA 30 – Hour Certification within the last 2 years.
    • Must be able to walk a substantial distance, walk on uneven ground, climb 30+ foot ladders, crawl, and be on their feet the majority of the shift. This is a field safety position with confined space and fall protection activities that will be a requirement of the position.
    • Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs.
    • Bilingual in Spanish is preferred.
