HTI is recruiting for an experienced

Steel Mill Manufacturing Manager

with an international steel manufacturing company at their new facility near Greenville, South Carolina. The company is expanding in the area, and the new steel mill is currently in the start-up phase. This is a full-time, onsite, salaried position. Relocation allowance is available for non-local candidates. Salary range depends on experience/education, and the range is approximately $100,000 - $135,000 / year.

Job Summary

The Steel Mill Manufacturing Manager will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of steel (tube) mill operations, from raw material processing to finished product packaging.

This role requires strong leadership, steel mill technical expertise, and a focus on safety, quality, and efficiency.


Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in engineering, manufacturing, or related field (preferred)
Must have 5+ years of recent experience in the Steel Mill industry

Must have 7+ years of experience with the job duties listed below as a Production Manager, Operations Manager, or Manufacturing Manager.

Direct, hands-on experience managing a steel mill and strong knowledge of steel mill machinery; must have capital expenditure experience purchasing/installing steel mill machinery.

Proven leadership and management experience, with the ability to motivate and develop teams to achieve performance goals.
Strong technical knowledge of steel/tube mill processes, equipment, and materials.
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Solid understanding of safety regulations and best practices in a manufacturing environment.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and systems for production planning, inventory management, and quality control (SAP, eData, transportation management systems).
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders.


Job duties include:

Manage production and supervise a team of steel mill supervisors, operators, technicians, and support staff, including hiring, training, and performance management.

Assist with management of the start-up processes for the new steel mill.
Develop and implement production schedules and workflows to optimize equipment utilization and meet production targets.

Coordinate with procurement and logistics teams to ensure the timely delivery of raw materials and the efficient flow of finished products through the production process.

Monitor and maintain tube mill equipment, including mills, cut-off machines, welders, and finishing equipment, to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime.

Implement quality control measures to ensure the dimensional accuracy, surface finish, and mechanical properties of produced tubing meet customer specifications.

Enforce safety protocols and promote a culture of safety awareness among team members, including regular safety training and compliance with regulatory requirements.

Collaborate with engineering and maintenance teams to identify opportunities for process improvements, equipment upgrades, and cost savings.
Analyze production data and performance metrics to identify trends, address issues, and optimize production efficiency.
Manage inventory levels of raw materials, consumables, and finished products, including stock management and reconciliation.
Communicate effectively with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to coordinate production requirements, resolve issues, and ensure customer satisfaction.
