- Performs complex CT procedures.
- Uses professional judgment when reviewing and obtaining the patient's clinical history for procedures, ensuring information is documented and scanned into PACS.
- Prepares, screens, and reviews the accuracy of the contrast questionnaire with the patient and/or family member and scans into EPIC.
- Identifies and/or administers contrast media related to CT exams as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
- Reviews the patient prescription to verify the appropriateness of the exam, and if incorrect, communicates with the Radiologist and Referring Physician to obtain additional clinical information or a new prescription.
- Responsible for calling physicians to clarify the prescription in accordance with the appropriate CT protocols.
- Verifies insurance authorized exam script and sends exam modification forms to Finance for insurance re-verification.
- Obtains outside studies (CD) then schedules them in EPIC so the CD and reports are available in PACS to be compared by Radiologists.
- Provides exam copies to the patient and requesting physician and/or family member.
- Evaluates radiographs using PACS System to ensure that radiographs contain proper identification and are of diagnostic value.
- Gathers relevant information from the medical record, significant others, and healthcare providers to prepare protocols for scanning and patient safety.
- Determines whether the patient has been appropriately prepared for the procedure.
- Prepares the patient for scanning (i.e., shielding, immobilization devices).
- Determines appropriate type and dose of contrast to be administered.
- Provides accurate explanations and instructions to the patient and addresses patient questions and concerns regarding the procedure.
- Performs venipuncture, IV patency, and maintenance procedures according to established guidelines.
- Monitors the patient's physical condition for any adverse reactions during the procedure.
- Works scheduled shifts including holidays and weekends.
- Overtime as needed to provide continual quality patient care.
- On-call assignments as needed per Department of Radiology policy.
- Adheres to the policy of Employee ID, Standards of Behavior, Attendance, and Punctuality.
- Lifts a minimum of 25 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 50 lbs., and stands a minimum of 6 hours a day.
- Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs.
- Adheres to the standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational Competencies and Standards of Behavior.
- Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and radiological positioning of the human body.
- Understanding of mechanical attributes of CT software and hardware.
- Thorough knowledge of PACS system.
- Maintains CEU Credits.
- Team members must achieve ARRT (CT) certification within twelve months following their hire date.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification within three months of hire date.
- Six months CT experience preferred.
- Knowledge of Epic and any HIS/RIS system added by the hospital.
- ARRT certified R.T. (CT) license preferred.
