Description
Position SummaryThe laboratory manager is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the laboratory.
Laboratory manager is responsible and accountable to ensure the laboratory meets all federal, state and local standards and as may be directed by the Administrator to ensure quality, productivity and professionalism at all times.
Essential Job FunctionsMust meet commitment and tasks as outlined by CLIA requirements.
Responsible for monitoring all work done in the laboratory to ensure quality results in all areas of laboratory.
Responsible for training of laboratory personnel.
Perform all procedures in the laboratory, which have been approved by Lab Director and medical staff, and as outlined in procedure manual.
Responsible for quality control in all areas of laboratory, and assist administrator with quality improvement.
Must maintain proper function of laboratory equipment. Responsible for calibrations, precision, and validating of laboratory instruments.
Follow safety precautions when performing tasks and using lab equipment.
Responsible for signing off all laboratory tests personally performed.
Must perform proficiency testing as outlined by federal guidelines.
Responsible for keeping laboratory stocked with necessary supplies for proper function of the laboratory.
Must share the technical work with other laboratorians – be a team player – assist and maintain a clean working environment in the laboratory.
Dispose of blood, biohazard fluids or tissue, and/ or contaminated sharps, in accordance with applicable laws, standards, or policies.
Uses appropriate critical thinking and judgment in provision of care. Performs all aspects of treatment based upon national, departmental and evidence- based standards.
Documents in a timely, accurate manner which supports medical necessity in accordance with departmental standards.
Must be able to demonstrate a professional attitude, in all situations; the ability to see the patient as a unique individual, rather than a task to complete.
An Associate's Degree in Applied Science from an accredited college or university is required. Comparable experience on the job is also acceptable.
Five years' experience in medical laboratory setting is required
Previous management experience is preferred
Membership to American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) is preferred
