    Job Title:

    Lead Carbon Composite Technician
    Hours:

    30 pm

    The ideal candidate will have a strong command of composite manufacturing principles and best practices for quality part production.

    This position requires individual layups of carbon fiber, prep composite, and billet aluminum for assembly, maintain strict quality and process standards, and thorough documentation.

    This is an opportunity to be integral to product design and tooling strategy for manufacturing and assembly.

    Duties/Essential Job Functions:

    Leads by example with integrity and respect, along with policy and procedure compliance
    Leads a team of manufacturing staff by communicating job expectations by managing the build plan.

    Providing the area daily plan and monitoring, and appraising job results; provide training and coaching for employees, and enforcing systems, policies, and procedures.

    Escalate any counseling, and disciplinary needs to Supervisor or Department Manager.
    Track and report hourly count of production throughput, FTC, and quality issues while also performing hourly in process inspections (quality and process conformance)
    Fill out Production Control Log at end of production run, capturing scrap and rework hours
    Enforce PPE compliance with production staff
    Capture data for Manufacturing Metrics
    Read and interpret work instructions and manufacturing documents to produce finished product. Do not allow nonstandard processes to be used nor non-validated tools, fixtures or equipment to be used in area without verification and approval
    Follow all operating procedures for the powering on and off equipment, along with ensuring LOTO (Lock Out Tag Out) is being followed when equipment needs repair
    Follow all safety precautions and bring any safety concerns and hazards to the attention of the Plant Supervisor or Director of Operations
    Interface with product design and manufacturing engineers as required to provide any manufacturing feedback
    Manufacture and assemble composites for low volume production and prototypes
    Lay out, assemble, pre-fit and bond a variety of composites or laminate fabrications, parts, skins or equipment
    Cut, trim and drill composite parts to drawing specifications
    Complete hand layup by following specific work instructions and drawings for each part
    Perform typical composite duties such as trimming, fitting, laminating, and cutting
    Aid in process development by identifying process improvement methods to improve quality and efficiency, and material/supply specifications
    Coordinate with Engineering in the determination and development of materials, processes, specifications, and related documents to be used in the fabrication, rework and repair
    Perform light duty machine operations utilizing drill press, band saw, chop saw and hand power tools
    Ensure each tooling was cleaned of all foreign object debris, prepped, and checked for defects while also keeping a clean work environment
    Assist in maintaining inventory accuracy
    All other duties as assigned

    Work Environment/Physical Demands

    • Assembly/manufacturing work environment
    • Able to meet maximum recommended weight limit (RWL) lift defined by National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) of 50 pounds
    • Follow PPE requirements such as wearing steel toed or composite toed shoes and safety glasses and other PPE when required

    Requirements:

    Required education and experience:


    • High School Diploma/High School Equivalency (GED) or higher
    • At least a year or more of carbon fiber/composite experience
    • At least a year or more of leadership/supervisory experience
    • Strong communication skills and Microsoft Office proficiency
    Preferred education and experience:


    • Experience with high temp epoxy
    • Basic understanding of the material properties of carbon fiber and resins
    • Possesses attention to detail
    • ERP experience
