    Grade Code: 106Position Information This position is located in the Central Maintenance Division of the Water Department and will include mandatory on-call scheduling, with weekend and holiday hours.

    Essential Functions Performs preventative and regularly scheduled maintenance and repairs on major industrial equipment in the field:

    inspects, troubleshoots, disassembles, and overhauls equipment, such as cutters, bearings, chains, mechanical seals, gear reducers, sluice gates, compressors, lights, hydraulic controls, mechanical, structural and plumbing apparatus, belts, chains, conveyors, diesel and gas engines, pipes and piping systems, and pumps; checks and tests close tolerance; services, lubricates and adjusts chemical feed and processing equipment; determines excess wear and pump efficiencies; welds and fabricates parts; and adjusts valves and carburetors.

    Performs general cleaning and maintenance tasks necessary to keep equipment and tools in operable condition:

    inspects equipment; checks fluid levels; replaces fluid; greases equipment; replaces parts; washes and cleans equipment; cleans shop and work areas; monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; and reports faulty equipment.

    Provides technical repair service to heavy duty equipment at pump stations and water reclamation facilities:

    reads and interprets schematics; disassembles and removes parts; inspects parts and analyzes test results to determine defects; diagnoses needed repairs or parts to be replaced; repairs and/or replaces broken and malfunctioning components; cleans, lubricates and adjusts equipment and machinery; reassembles equipment; verifies proper working condition and function; coordinates work activities with plant personnel; ensures work and materials are in compliance with manufacturer specifications; and makes recommendations to supervisor as required.

    Troubleshoots, monitors, inspects, maintains, repairs and reports problems at assigned lift stations:

    maintains building, fence line, landscaping, and machinery; tests alarms, pumps, overhead cranes, level control devices, generators, etc.; makes adjustments as needed; inspects and cleans wet well; greases and adjusts packing on pumps; inspects piping, valves, actuators and pump pressure gauges, emergency backup generator, oil, antifreeze, belts, hoses, air filters, fire extinguishers and other equipment; and creates and submits related work orders as needed.


    Monitors and maintains inventory of parts and equipment:

    unloads products and shipments; verifies products received compared to products ordered; reports shortage, damage, and mis-shipments; stores parts and equipment; processes orders for delivery; locates inventory; ensures correct product number, quantity and type; labels and packs orders; transports orders to shipping locations or delivery platforms; participates in inventory counts; and maintains all related documentation.

    Follows safety procedures, utilizes safety equipment, and monitors work environment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals:

    places safety cones, markers, or signs to alert employees and citizens of work areas, wet floors, or other potential hazards; and locks and secures chemical and equipment storage areas.

    Performs general cleaning and maintenance tasks necessary to keep equipment and tools in operable condition:

    inspects equipment; checks fluid levels; replaces fluid; greases equipment; replaces parts; washes and cleans equipment; cleans shop and work areas; monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; and reports faulty equipment.


    Monitors pump stations via remote monitoring system:

    monitors system daily for pumping trends and failures; receives and responds to requests for information; releases data and metering information; resets alarms; runs pumps; and creates and submits related work orders.

    Prepares and maintains documentation for all work activities, such as work orders, timesheets, electrical diagrams, maintenance logs, inventory forms, etc.; and enters and retrieves information into computer-based work order maintenance management system.

    Provides emergency coverage as directed/required; works on standby status according to established departmental schedules.
    Performs other related duties as assigned.

    Minimum QualificationsHigh School Diploma or GED required, supplemented by vocational or technical training in electrical, plumbing, welding or other trade; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

    Licenses and Certifications Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must obtain Maintenance Technologist III Certification within first year of employment.

    Physical Abilities Tasks involve the regular and sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials pounds); may occasionally involve heavier objects and materials (up to 100 pounds).Sensory RequirementsSome tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, odor, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals.

    Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
