    Description
    Provide bioengineering resources to manage medical equipment planning for construction projects involving biomedical equipment at all sites requested.

    Provide bioengineering resources to conduct pre-purchase evaluations, research vendors, assess cost of ownership, and other activities in support of biomedical equipment acquisitions.

    Integrate management of biomedical equipment maintenance at all sites.
    Provide bioengineering resources to offer initial inspections and acceptance testing for acquisition of biomedical equipment.
    Provide bioengineering resources to participate in the medical device hazard and recall notification program.
    Provide bioengineering resources to comply with the Joint Commission medical equipment management standards.
    Evaluate current service offerings and partner with institutional customers to develop new bioengineering services where appropriate
    Develop and meet goals with respect to biomedical technology in support of strategic plan.
    Review and rank all strategic capital requests for biomedical equipment; assess and prioritize all strategic capital requests.
    Provide bioengineering resources to review the maintenance capital submittals for biomedical equipment at all sites as requested.
    Act as a functional expert for the translation of business practice into bioengineering solutions. Provide expert technical support on bioengineering technologies used by the UI Health Care enterprise.
    Serve as the liaison for technical staff, users, vendors and other stakeholders.

    Establish new and modify existing procedures and processes to make effective use of available technologies to increase efficiency and improve customer satisfaction.

    Manage equipment performance and service to vendors to maintain the highest standards of patient care.

    When products or services are found to be unsatisfactory, the Director is responsible for expediting solutions, including replacing equipment or terminating service agreements.

    Communicate with senior leadership and project sponsors regarding the status of specific projects.
    Prepare special and periodic reports to senior leadership.
    Facilitate customer interactions and grow relationships with key clinical customers through participation on system committees.
    Develop and implement policies and procedures that guide and support functions of the Bioengineering Department.
    Develop budget and create systems for effective implementation and monitoring.
    Optimize annual capital purchasing power by identifying opportunities to consolidate purchases across sites and fiscal years.

    Supervise and participate in in-service training of new technicians and clinical staff concerning use and operation of patient care equipment.

    Negotiate system-wide service agreements with vendors where appropriate.

    Education Requirements:
    Bachelor's degree engineering or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience

    Experience Requirements:
    Expert level experience (typically 5 years) in medical or technical equipment operations and maintenance management.

    Extensive experience (typically 3 years) in the management of staff and services of a bioengineering program in a large hospital or complex academic medical center environment.

    Advanced electronic training including electronic theory and technology and familiarity with applicable regulatory and inspection agency requirements
    Expert level knowledge of industry trends and current patient care equipment. Demonstrated experience applying new technology solutions to business and healthcare problems.
    Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate technical principles and ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences.
    Demonstr ted job-related experience with and/or commitment to diversity in the work/academic environment.

    Desired Qualifications:
    Master of Science degree in engineering or biomedical engineering with a clinical engineering concentration is highly desirable

    Credentials as a Certified Clinical Engineering (CCE) or Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) by the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI).

    Experience as an administrative manager of staff in a unionized environment.
    Ability to motivate in a team-oriented, collaborative environment; exceptional service orientation skills.
    In-depth knowledge of Joint Commission and other applicable standards and regulations.
    Experience in the development of standards and policies across functional specialties.
