At GEO, we believe in the three pillars of employee wellbeing: physical, emotional, and financial. This position provides mental health counseling services to detainees with diverse and complex backgrounds.Typical duties include determining the appropriate counseling based on the detainees' needs, case management and treatment planning, and following-up with the detainees in a timely manner.
Reviews records, psychological evaluations and social history assessments of detainees arriving at the facility. Conducts interviews with detainees and presents relevant mental health information profiles to the members of Classification Board.Conducts interviews and gathers historical, legal and technical data to develop the most effective type of intervention. Makes appropriate referrals for treatment to other mental health professionals, as needed.
Develops programs such as work skills, interpersonal relationships, leisure activities and life skills to assist detainees as they prepare themselves for reentry into the community.
Communicates and coordinates activities with other staff members as part of the interdisciplinary treatment team.Maintains contacts with outside agencies, community resources, employers, volunteers, etc. Provides mental health information regarding detainee housing and work assignments.
Ensures that all facility rules, policies and procedures are reinforced.
Master's degree in counseling or counseling related field.
Current license as a professional counselor or Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state in which the facility is located or licensure/certification in accordance with contract requirements.
(Current copy of license must be on file at the facility at all times.)Ability to demonstrate mature, professional, cooperative and emphatic to programs needs and facility staff an inmates.
Ability to use computers and the software applications typically used by the department.
