    We are hiring a Lab Operations Specialist (Contract). Reporting to the Associate Director of Lab Operations, this position will contribute to maintaining and continuously improving Metagenomi's laboratory operations. You will support our scientific team by ensuring the labs run efficiently. This role will be based in Emeryville, California.

    How you'll contribute:

    • Support the daily maintenance of our lab spaces, facilitating the service and maintenance of lab safety, equipment, and lab upkeep
    • Conduct twice daily lab checks, receive and organize laboratory materials, and troubleshoot equipment issues
    • Participate in lab safety compliance initiatives
    • Maintain chemical inventory and SDS binder up to date
    • Manage communal lab areas by keeping them organized and tidy (cold room, open lab, TC spaces, etc.)
    • Maintain appropriate levels of lab supplies in designated areas for scientists
    • Maintain laboratory labware/glassware, including cleaning, washing, sterilization, and redistribution throughout all labs
    • Assist with daily removal of lab waste materials
    • Daily check and restock safety glasses, gloves, and lab coats
    • Assist with incubator maintenance (water levels, CO2 & sterilization)
    • Clean benchtop equipment (centrifuges, water baths, & scales)
    • Daily temperature checks of cold storage (fridges & freezers), including periodic de-ice and defrost
    • Assist with managing lab equipment and coordinate with vendors for installation, repair, and maintenance
    • Assist scientists and other laboratory staff with vendor relations
    • Identify and improve lab operations efficiency as well as support improvement projects
    • Act as subject matter expert to answer scientist and researcher questions and resolve problems
    • Assist with shipping and receiving
    • Perform other duties as assigned
    Must haves:
    • At least three years of biotechnology lab industry experience
    • High School Diploma or equivalent
    • Strong oral and written communication skills, the ability to work with a variety of cross-functional departments
    • Extremely organized and able to efficiently manage your time and workflow, including skillfully prioritizing both projects and day-to-day responsibilities
    • Able to quickly learn and adapt to new software and laboratory equipment
    • Highly collaborative, team-oriented, and considerate of the needs of others
    • Thrives in a fast-moving, results-oriented startup environment
    • Independent and self-sufficient, but knows when to ask questions or seek support
