    Description

    Director, Research and Development Engineering

    Your Contribution

    • Responsibility for the conceptualization, design and development, and support of new and existing products.
    • Develop new glass systems leading to higher performance products and reduced product cost.
    • Assist and/or coordinate prototype development of new products.
    • Formulate, recommend, and execute the company strategy including goals, projects, priorities, expenditures, etc., consistent with the Company's business requirements and strategy.
    • Provide technical leadership on complex design issues.
    • Lead a technical team of engineers from various technical disciplines to design, manufacture, and test components, products, and complex systems to ensure attainment of goals and due dates.
    • Ensure that projects meet organizational needs and capitalize on new products; monitor project status for progress and evaluate results.
    • Oversee the transfer of new products to production is successful by working with all cross functional groups such as Quality, Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Chain, etc.
    • Maintain close working relationships with major customers to understand their needs and provide solutions.
    • Analyze technology trends, staffing and technical needs, and market demand to plan projects.
    • Develop short and long-range plans that assist in meeting the Technology Center goals and objectives.
    • May require some travel domestic and international including customer and internal meeting and conferences.

    Your Profile

    • BS Degree in Engineering, Physics, Glass Science or a similar science required
    • PhD in physics, photonics, optics or a similar science or equivalent experience preferred.
    • Formal training in opto-electronics or fiber optics preferred.
    • Minimum five (5) years' experience in a senior technical management position required.
    • Experience in imaging technologies or related field preferred.
    • Ability to work with customers.
    • Ability to provide leadership for change and continuous improvement.
    • Effective interpersonal skills resulting in the ability to create effective working relationships with a diverse group of personalities.
    • Effective negotiation skills.
    • Strong analytical ability and a disciplined problem-solving approach.
    • Good judgment and decision-making ability.
    • Effective communication skills: listening, writing, speaking and oral presentations.
    • Self-motivated and results oriented.
    • Computer proficiency and experience using Microsoft Office software.
    • Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
    • Due to the nature of work performed at this facility, US Person status may be required.
