    Northrop Grumman Aerostructures Business Unit (ASBU) has an opening for

    Manufacturing Engineer / Principal Manufacturing Engineer

    to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. The position requires on-site support and will be located in

    Clearfield, UT

    at the Freeport Composites Center (FCC) within the Freeport Center. This position is in support of composite part manufacturing for the F-35 program.


    The selected candidate will provide critical support in a production environment to help develop and maintain manufacturing processes, procedures and production layouts for composite aircraft parts and assemblies.

    Selected candidate will be primary technical point of contact for assigned work cell(s) and work as part of a broader support team to accomplish job duties.

    These responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

    Accountable for process control, quality, safety, delivery, and rework metrics for responsible production lines.

    Responsible for floor support of the work areas to help facilitate the ability to meet production requirements.

    Will review and interpret design drawings and specifications to ensure process is capable of producing compliant product.

    Provides technical solutions to a wide range of complex problems. Solutions are imaginative, thorough, practicable, and consistent with organization objectives.

    Accountable for creation and maintenance of Manufacturing Bill of Materials, Work Instructions, manufacturing routers and standard work documentation.

    Responsible for continuous improvement of the manufacturing process.


    Accountable for preliminary dispositions of non-conforming parts and assemblies including evaluation of defects to the applicable requirements and determining the optimal path forward.

    Supports root cause analysis of failures and manages the implementation of corrective actions.

    May support manufacturing proposals & basis-of-estimates (BOE's) for potential contracts.

    The ideal candidate is a self-starter seeking autonomy and possesses both strong written and verbal communication skills.

    He/she should enjoy collaborating with others of varying backgrounds and roles, including but not limited to Production, Maintenance, and Quality, in a fast-paced environment to solve time-sensitive problems.

    Primary work schedule is for a day shift, Monday - Friday, with every other Friday off (9/80 schedule), however the position may require occasional off-shift calls or support as the manufacturing work cells may run on nights and weekends.

    This role can be filled at a Manufacturing Engineer or Principal Manufacturing Engineer depending on the qualifications below.

    Basic Qualifications:

    Manufacturing Engineer

    Bachelors Degree in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) and 2+ years of engineering work experience in a manufacturing environment, or Masters Degree in a STEM field and 0-2 years of experience

    Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and specifications

    Working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)

    Principal Manufacturing Engineer

    Bachelors Degree in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) and 5+ years of engineering work experience in a manufacturing environment, or Masters Degree in a STEM field and 3+ years of experience

    Experience with process engineering or manufacturing engineering

    Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and specifications

    Working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)

    Preferred Qualifications

    :

    Degree in Manufacturing, Aerospace, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering

    Solid understanding of root cause / corrective action (RCCA) processes and techniques

    Experience using RCCA tools such as Five Why, Pareto, fishbone, etc.

    Knowledge of composite part manufacturing

    Experience in computer assisted design software (CATIA preferred)

    Experience with Process Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (PFMEA)

    Experience drafting, maintaining, and modifying work instructions and/or process specifications

    Salary Range:

    $66,600 - $99,800

    Salary Range 2:

    $84,200 - $126,400


    The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

    Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
