    Launch Mechanical Design Engineer, Drive Systems

    Tesla is in need of mechanical engineers to tend to daily needs of production and supply chain to maintain a supply of quality parts to drive unit lines.

    New Vendors and ongoing production shortages require some part redesign and validation activities in a timely or forward looking manner.


    Responsibilities:

    • Manage 3D CAD and 2D drawings in both CAD and PLM software
    • Identifying and tending to potential and actual part shortages or quality issues
    • Design validation and durability testing for new designs and vendors
    • Profile development and data analysis for drive unit and component testing
    • Carry designs through to high-volume production; DFM, cost reductions, and second sourcing
    • Collaborate with manufacturing engineers and various suppliers to transition concepts to production
    • Utilize understanding of materials and manufacturing processes to collaborate with various suppliers and other internal team members.
    • Mentoring junior engineers and interns

    Requirements:

    • The ideal candidate will have:
    • Evidence of exceptional ability as a problem solved
    • Understand PFMEA concepts and implementation
    • Vendor relations experience
    • Statistical process control and methods
    • Use CAD modeling techniques and CATIA v5 to design and develop electric drive systems and mechanical components for testing and manufacturing.
    • Expected skills: GD&T, 3D CAD, 2D Drawings, DFMEA, PFMEA, structural and thermal FEA
    • Bonus skills: Catia, NVH analysis, Machine design, specification writing, plastic injection molding, bolted joint design
