Description
JOB SUMMARYThe Rehabilitation Services Director is responsiblefor the development, planning, management, and operation of the organization'srehabilitation services programs, including physical therapy, speech therapy,occupational therapy, and cardiac rehab.
The functions of the Director include staffing, scheduling, budgetdevelopment and monitoring, program development and evaluation, staffcompetency/evaluation, performance improvement, safety and risk management, andmarketing as each is related to the services provided.
Job Specific:
1. Assumes the responsibility and authority for theongoing operation of the rehabilitation programs. (EF)2.
Develops, implements, and reviews program protocols,standing orders, policies, and procedures in accordance with the hospital'smission, strategic plans, and other identified needs.
(EF)3. Develops admission processes specific to thedepartment, rehabilitation guidelines, staffing patterns, and record keepingroutines. (EF)4. Responsible for hiring, orientating, training,performance managing, providing timely, constructive evaluation of staff, andmaking employment decisions. (EF)5. Develops and implements staff education programs andseminars to maintain current competency in rehabilitation care concepts. (EF)6. Along with staff input, selects, maintains, calibrates,and identifies equipment for replacement. (EF). 7. Evaluates, develops, and implements new services.Prepares participant orientation, education, exercise, and counseling.8. Communicates regularly with patient's primaryphysicians regarding progress, problems, and plan of care. (EF)9. Evaluates productivity assessments and develops departmentbudget and marketing plans. (EF)10. Demonstratesknowledge of rehabilitation modalities, and observes, evaluates treatmenteffects, and provides recommendations for all rehabilitation services. (EF)11. Coordinatesand directs patient care to ensure patients' needs are met and hospital policiesare followed.12. Ensuresdocumentation meets current standards and policies for all rehabilitationservices, i.e. ISO/NIAHO, DNV, Medicare, etc. (EF)13.
PatientCare Services assigned members of the Stroke Team are responsible for attendingquarterly meetings and to comply with 2 hours of Stroke education, annually.
14.Communicateswith peers and staff, and consults/collaborates with services intra andinter-departmentally to promote efficient and effective patient care andperformance improvement within the hospital.
15. Maintainsprofessional growth and development through education, seminars, conferences,workshops, etc. 16. Reviewsapplicable current literature for all rehabilitation service programs.17. Participatesin hospital committees, hospital sponsored programs and activities, and civiccommunity activities as requested.Hospital:
Adheres to organization-wide and other applicable policies and procedures. Day-to-day performance complies with the hospital's Service Excellence Behavioral Expectations. Performs within the prescribed limits of the hospital's Ethics, Compliance and Confidentiality Program guidelines. Performs within professional Scope of Practice at all times.

EDUCATIONALREQUIREMENTSRequired:
Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctorate degreein a rehabilitation professional area of study (i.e. Physical Therapy,Speech/Language, Occupational) from a program approved by State of Texas.
Preferred:
PhysicalTherapy degreeEXPERIENCERequired: 3 to 5years' experience as a staff rehabilitation professional (PT, OT, SLP) in anacute care clinical setting.
1 to 2 years' experience in a leadership role ormanagement position. Leadership role or management position should haveincluded active and direct interaction.Preferred:
Preferredexperience in exposure to skilled nursing, home health, rehabilitation clinicalsettings and cardiac rehabilitation
SPECIAL SKILLS ANDABILITIESRequired:
Communicationand relationship skills necessary to collaborate with physicians, providers,and hospital personnel. Ability to empower and develop staff to share indecision making processes.
Strong computer skills,including spreadsheets, email, calendars, and internet applications in awindows environment with Microsoft Office Applications such as Excel, Word,PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.
LICENSURE /CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTSRequired:
Licensed as a rehabilitation servicesprofessional in the State of Texas (physical therapist, speech/language,occupational). BLS certification.
