    Lawrence Berkeley National Lab's (LBNL ) Facilities Division has an opening for a Facilities Technical Manager- Electrical to join the team.

    This position is responsible for the safe and effective maintenance, repair, or replacement of plant equipment, and operations of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL). The Lab includes buildings, scientific user centers, and utility infrastructures. The Laboratory is located on over 200 acres, and has over 4,000 personnel (and more than 10,000 visitors/yr.) in more than 100 science and administrative buildings and special facilities.

    This role manages supervisors, craft workers, and subcontractors involved with the Electricians and Lighting Technicians.The position is key to ensuring the successful execution of maintenance and utilities work using the maintenance work planning and control process to ensure work is performed safely.This position oversees the Hazardous Energy Controls and LOTO implementation for the Project Infrastructure and Modernization Division, PIMD to ensure that LOTO's are safely implemented and safe boundaries are aligned with the isolation points.

    What You Will Do:

    • Oversee the successful execution and direction of skilled craft workers in support of a range of electrical maintenance, installations, and projects through oversight and in partnership with technical supervisors.
    • Support technical supervisors in ensuring that performance objectives are met and clearly communicated to craft workers.
    • Provide direction, guidance, and support to technical supervisors, leads, and craft workers in support of work activities.
    • Responsible for the overall management and supervision of staff and assignments in a technical area of responsibility within the Facilities Division.
    • Responsible for assessing staffing needs, overseeing hiring, training, and professional development within immediate organization(s).
    • Responsible for ensuring the successful execution of division and department goals by developing timelines and deliverables in partnership with internal key stakeholders, including Environment Health and Safety, EHS, Division Electric Safety Officer, DESO, Electrical System Engineers, and Facility Area Managers.
    • Responsible for ensuring staff have front-line support for any technical, DOE contract Compliance, hazard identification, and safety mitigation plans needed to execute work safely.
    • Ensure successful, timely, efficient, and safely executed work practices are performed on preventative maintenance, emergency repairs, installations, and corrective maintenance efforts throughout the site.
    • Receives assignments in the form of objectives and determines how to use resources to meet schedules and goals.
    • Collect, analyze, and communicate technical information to facilities management.
    • Support the development of procedures and work processes to improve operations and worker safety. Recommends changes to policy and establishes procedures that affect immediate organization(s).
    • Partner with Work Planning and Control (WPC), the Facilities Engineers, Construction Managers, and Project Managers to ensure successful execution of Electrical Outage planning program efforts.
    • Ensure Laboratory safety practices, processes, and procedures are appropriate for technical and safety-related work practices associated with the type of work performed by immediate organization(s).
    • Ensure staff acquire and maintain required qualifications to meet work demands and safety requirements.
    • Provide leadership for Laboratory and Division process improvements and other initiatives; serve as a change agent, ensuring both upward and downward communications to facilitate success.
    • Communicate and reinforce clear performance expectations for assigned personnel; provide routine feedback as well as coaching for assigned workers, conduct performance appraisals, and administer discipline.
    • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of bargaining unit contract(s) applicable to assigned personnel and manage work within the bounds of the contract; communicate information to assigned workers on working conditions, professional development, career opportunities, and compensation.

    What is Required:

    • A bachelor's degree and a minimum of 6 years of facility/utility management experience OR 10 years of facilities/utilities management experience in a complex industrial plant, campus, or laboratory setting with multiple buildings.
    • Strong leadership skills and experience in supervising or managing teams.
    • Experience in facilities management, project management, construction, or a related field.
    • Demonstrated experience organizing, assigning, monitoring, and directing the work of staff and managing day-to-day projects.
    • Experience employing project management principles and systems, including scoping, estimating, planning, budgeting, controlling, implementing, and change management.
    • Demonstrated experience utilizing a Computerized Maintenance Management System
    • Ability to plan, organize, and estimate multi-craft industrial and/or commercial building infrastructure repairs and maintenance.
    • Working Knowledge of OSHA requirements, and technical safety.
    • Broad knowledge of California Building and Electrical Codes, NFPA requirements, and industry standards /practices in the Facilities Maintenance arena. Extensive experience and knowledge of building maintenance and repairs, commercial or residential electrical work, high voltage (≥480v) electrical experience, fire life safety system installation, troubleshooting and testing, general maintenance, and labor, etc.
    • Valid California Driver's License.

    Desired Qualifications:

    • MAXIMO experience.
    • Professional certificate or credential in Facilities Management (i.e. IFMA FMP, BOMI FMC, AFE CPMM, etc.).
    • Experience working and managing in a union-represented environment.

    Notes:

    • This is a full-time career appointment, exempt (monthly paid).
    • The Facilities Technical Manager position is expected to pay $180,000 – $210,000 annually, which fits within the full salary range of $143,148 – $241,560 annually for the job classification of G02.2.
    • Salary for this position will be commensurate with the final candidate's qualifications and experience, including skills, knowledge, relevant education, certifications, plus also aligned with the internal peer group.
    • It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on the final candidate's qualifications and experience.
