    Under the supervision of the Program Administrator/Staff Services Manger I- Supervisor for the Mobility Evaluation Program (MEP), the Senior Rehabilitation Engineer Consultant provides consultation and training on improving the functioning and mobility of persons with disabilities to the departmental staff, other governmental agencies, and the private sector; participates in the driving evaluation of consumers and in the formulation of recommended adaptive driving for consumers; participates in the development of rehabilitation engineering technology and vehicle modification standards; assists in the formation of rehabilitation engineering technology policies to the department; and assists in conducting special projects and pilot programs.

    Represents the department in interagency coordination bodies composed of state and local agencies private foundations and manufacturers of adaptive driving devices and modifications; writes standards and specifications for hardware () and service delivery (); analyzes the need for new devices and methods; accepts mobility products for purchase by the department per the Specifications for Adaptive Driving Equipment; analyzes data on the use and cost effectiveness of rehabilitation engineering technology services, including mobility equipment and recommended changes; make presentations to groups and individuals, providing information on rehabilitation engineering technology services are and what the their value is to those with disabilities; participates in the certification of mobility evaluation programs and evaluates requests from non-contract modifiers to become contract modifiers; develops technical specifications and requirements for equipment and modifications purchased by the department, including accompanying technical research and liaison with other coordinating state agencies and public agencies. Receives and responds in writing, email or telephone requests for assistance for consultation from counselors or consumers on mobility related technology issues; participates directly in mobility evaluations of significantly disabled consumers as part of the MEP; maintains, tracks and monitors consumer files using spreadsheet software; fabricates special devices, modifies and adjust sophisticated equipment needed to evaluate and train significantly disabled consumers, both in preparation for the evaluation and during the evaluation driving session; prepares the recommended vehicle modification section of the mobility evaluation report (items needed to be a safe and independent driver or passenger) for all consumers evaluated by MEP; performs follow-ups with the vendors on difficult cases when problems are related to design fabrication or adjustment of special non-standard equipment or as related to the mobility evaluation report; assist the departmental staff in technical aspects of the vehicle/modification procurement process; provides guidance to counselors regarding the instructions and repair issues.Consults with departmental staff and provides general information, instructions and guidance on related issues or procedures, including driving and passenger evaluations to consumers.Uses expertise and experience in the field to provide consultation to administrative, departmental staff and other state/local agencies; assist in training and consultation to the DOR staff on the needs of the roles of the Vocational Rehabilitation Employment Division (VRED) teams in the field of rehabilitation engineering technology; provides consultation to the administration staff on various task forces relating to technical data they need for making decisions and policy recommendations; provides consultation to members of the community who need to understand the role of DOR as it relates to rehabilitation engineering; upon receiving a request for a rehabilitation engineering technology device, advises the requester or the appropriate rehabilitation engineering technology service provider they should work with. Provides excellent customer service to both internal and external customers; ensures the timely completion of assignments; able to work in a team environment and as a team player; interacts well with co-workers, consumers and customers in a professional manner, with integrity and respect.
