    SUMMARY

    The Research and Policy Analyst is the lead researcher on Her Justice research projects and supports the development and implementation of Her Justice's policy and advocacy agenda, reporting to the Director, Policy and working in collaboration with Her Justice staff.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Research and Policy Analysis – 50%

    • As appropriate to advance certain Her Justice policy priorities, conduct original (quantitative and qualitative) research, and coordinate the publication and release of results.
    • Lead, with Policy Director, efforts to analyze Her Justice client case data and share findings to support policy projects.
    • Support the development of and implementation of Her Justice's policy priorities, including participating in identifying new and emerging priorities for the organization.
    • Produce policy analyses and attendant materials as necessary and in support of the organization's policy priorities.
    • In support of Her Justice's policy priorities, research and write on issues relating to social justice, civil justice system reform and access-to-justice, policy issues relating to poverty, women's rights and gender equity, and racial equity, among others.

    Advocacy – 20%

    • In service of Her Justice's policy platform, work with the Director, Policy to develop strategies and design advocacy projects to effect systems change in New York City, New York State, and, where appropriate, nationally.
    • Conduct and leverage research – including analysis of Her Justice client data and original research – to support advocacy on behalf of Her Justice's policy priorities.
    • In collaboration with the policy team and the organization's retained lobbying firm, support the development and management of an engagement strategy for elected officials and candidates, to advance Her Justice advocacy priorities.
    • With the Policy Director and Policy and Advocacy Coordinator, monitor City, State, and Federal legislation relevant to Her Justice policy priorities.
    • Collaborate with existing partners and coalitions in support of priority issues, and work to cultivate new allies in support of policy priorities.

    External Relations – 15%

    • Serve as a representative of Her Justice on committees, coalitions, and task forces relating to policy issues and reform efforts.
    • Assist the Director, Policy in facilitating collaboration between Her Justice and law firms supporting the organization's research and policy projects.
    • Assist the Director, Policy in identifying and facilitating outreach opportunities among elected officials, policymakers, and other stakeholders, in support of raising Her Justice's policy profile.
    • Contribute to the organization's government relations work as it applies to issues advocacy and lobbying.
    • Support Director, Policy in preparing presentations to the Her Justice Board/Junior Advisory Board and other stakeholders.

    Internal Relations – 15%

    • Collaborate with Department of Law and Policy staff to analyze Her Justice client data to support policy and advocacy priorities and refine data collection practices.
    • Collaborate with key Her Justice staff, including Policy Team members and others in the Department of Law and Policy, to develop processes for sharing information and collaboration to support policy and advocacy strategy.
    • Train staff, volunteers, and students working on policy, advocacy, and research projects.
    • Collaborate with the Her Justice communications team in preparing materials about the organization's policy and advocacy efforts.
    • Support Her Justice development and fundraising efforts, including providing the Development team with information about the policy and advocacy work necessary to advance the organization's fundraising goals and support its commitments.

    SKILLSET AND QUALITIES

    • Knowledge of Microsoft Suite and Zoom.
    • Demonstrated commitment to social justice and advocacy for the population served by Her Justice.
    • Ability to conduct thorough and systematic research on policy issues, including gathering data, analyzing information, and synthesizing findings from various sources.
    • Proficiency in analyzing policies, regulations, and legislation to assess their implications, effectiveness, and potential impact on women living in poverty in New York City.
    • Experience in both quantitative and qualitative research methods, including statistical analysis, survey design, and qualitative data analysis techniques.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Graduate degree preferred with 2-4 years in related field or bachelors required with 4-6 years of experience in related field.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    Hybrid with one day a week in office (subject to change based on business needs).

    Salary: Commensurate with experience, expected to be $71,914 to $89,892. Benefits include medical insurance, 401K plan, and liberal vacation policy.
