We are seeking a Control System Engineer responsible for research, design, development, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of various aspects of process control and automation such as PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, instrumentation, networks, switches, computers, and servers.

This position offers a fantastic chance to join a technical team and enhance Fixed Plant Operations, encompassing Boric Acid Plant, Primary Process Plant, Fusing Plant, and Shipping Plant.

Reporting to the Superintendent, Engineering & Controls, and collaborating within a supportive community, your responsibilities will include:

• Ensuring compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality programs and standards for Rio Tinto and external regulatory agencies
• Establishing a positive team culture by demonstrating appropriate leadership behavior and systems
• Participating in a weekend, holidays, and after-hours on-call rotation
• Configuring process control software and graphics
• Developing, implementing, and managing projects to upgrade existing control systems
• Collaborating with others to ensure successful project start-up, checkout, and commissioning involving PLCs
• Creating and maintaining control system standards and updating documentation as needed
• Training electricians on field device work related to control systems to ensure proper functionality
• Conducting process controller tuning and assessing loop performance as required
• Overseeing control systems hardware, including troubleshooting issues, managing spare parts, and analyzing equipment failure logs
• Leading or assisting in troubleshooting efforts to prevent production upsets and downtime
• Supporting Operations by training operators on control system functionality and assisting in problem diagnosis
• Interpreting drawings, specifications, and instructional materials to optimize equipment performance
• Repairing Control System components and associated equipment to meet production demands
• Adapting to various assignments based on operational needs

What you'll bring

• A strong commitment to safety for yourself and your team
• Bachelor's or master's degree in Electrical, Computer, Electronics, or relevant field experience
• Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing Control Systems
• Minimum of 3-5 years' experience with Allen Bradley or Modicon PLCs and Factorytalk View or Wonderware HMIs
• 3 years of experience with various networks such as Modbus+, Ethernet, and DeviceNet is advantageous
• Familiarity with Thin Manager, Virtual Machines (VMs), Servers, Networks, Radios, and Switches is beneficial
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills to address complex challenges
• Positive attitude, eagerness to learn, and make a meaningful impact
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and in teams, influence others, make critical decisions, and communicate effectively with diverse personnel
