    Description


    Opening for Early Head Start Center Based Substitute Cook. This individual will contribute a positive, nurturing environment that is safe, clean and organized for children between the ages of birth to 3 years old. This is a newer center with state-of-the-art facility. EOE AD#2414

    GENERAL SUMMARY:

    Provide meals that meet CACFP and Head Start regulations for children in both Early Head Start center based and Head Start classrooms. Keep kitchen clean and properly organized.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
    1. Prep, prepare, and serve planned meals according to proper preparation methods and in a cost-effective manner.
    2. Prepare meals and delivery of meals in accordance with the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) and Head Start Performance Standards.
    3. Ensure the proper amount of food is available for scheduled meal service.
    4. Assist with the serving of meals; control portions to eliminate waste and leftovers; properly label, date, and store leftovers.
    5. Maintaining an appropriate food supply (inventory), making shopping lists and meal planning according to meus and ensure the proper storage and rotation of stock supplies.
    6. Monitor all cooking, storage, and working areas to ensure they are safe and properly sanitized.
    7. Properly completes and follows food production records and standardized recipes, demonstrating accuracy in weighing, measuring and portioning foods.
    8. Wash and sanitize cooking equipment, dishes, and utensils and per required standards and put away in proper place daily; ensure all kitchen areas, dishes, and related equipment is cleaned and sanitized after each shift; use cleaning products as prescribed and in accordance with safety guidelines.
    9. Ensure all kitchen and related equipment is cleaned, sanitized, and is in good operating condition at all times.
    10. Maintain current any required trainings and professional development.
    11. All other duties and special projects as assigned.
    SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, and ABILITIES:
    1. Ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines.
    2. Ability to obtain and maintain a driver's license, automobile, and current valid insurance in order to travel to designation locations.
    3. Knowledge of Agency's policies, practices and procedures.
    4. Knowledge of basic cooking skills and kitchen management.
    5. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, management, and various other business and community contacts.
    6. Ability to work with and maintain confidential information.
    7. Ability to work in a team-based environment.
    8. Ability to adapt to the organization's changing needs.
    9. Ability to pass a physical examination.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Minimum requirements for this position include high school diploma or equivalent. Kitchen or food service experience required. Computer experience a must.
