- Fits, aligns, and secures tank car parts in jigs and fixtures for welding steel, engaging in complex manual or semi-automatic arc welding of railcar parts, sub-assemblies, and assemblies on the bench, floor, or assembly line.
- Operates welding machine to regulate heat and travel speed for proper penetration and weld bead size, removes weld slag, preheats work per written weld processes.
- Visually inspects welds, rectifies faulty welds, performs minor equipment repairs, and occasionally uses air arc or flame cutting to aid in fixing defective welds.
- Assists in training other welders through on-the-job training upon request.
- Interprets and understands blueprints or welding drawings and procedures.
- Ensures compliance with safety and housekeeping standards, undertakes other duties as instructed by the Production Group Leader.
- Ability to pass relevant weld assessments for Welder 2 role.
- Proficiency in using weld gauges and computers.
- Adeptness in reading and comprehending blueprints or welding drawings and procedures.
- Capability to collaborate within a team environment.
- Readiness to learn forklift and overhead crane operation, complete necessary certifications through company training.
- High school diploma or equivalent qualification.
- One year of experience in production welding.
- Experience in forklift operation.
- Experience in overhead crane operation.
- Except for specific indoor roles, the physical environment demands work both indoors and outdoors in varied conditions like heat/cold, wet/humid, dry/arid, and dusty conditions.
- Employees must wear personal protective equipment as per environmental requirements.
- Some work may involve heights above four feet or confined spaces, necessitating fall protection gear.
- Respirator use may be necessary in certain areas, requiring employees to pass a fit test and maintain a clean-shaven face while using one.

The Welder 2 role involves executing high-quality welding of parts and fixtures in the railcar manufacturing process.
