    Job Title Senior Systems Engineer Location Virginia Beach, VA, US Organization Name Engineers Work Schedule and Other Information Will work with a team of 7 Senior System Engineers in support of HRSD's network infrastructure.

    Eligible for flexible Hybrid work schedule after 6-month probationary period. DCS/SCADA experience desired to support HRSD's operational and business networks. Brief Description
    Under broad guidance, the Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for:

    a. Designing, configuring, maintaining and supporting the HRSD Wide Area Network (WAN), Local Area Network (LAN), and server infrastructure

    b. Serving as subject matter expert in the research, identification, implementation and support of IT based solutions that meet HRSD business needs, goals and objectives

    c. Communicating the HRSD Mission, Vision and Values; provide long-term vision, strategic planning, and implementation of innovative programs to continually improve HRSD performance

    Job Requirements
    a. Education

    Required

    a) Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or related field, or acceptable combination of education and experience

    b) Microsoft Certified Systems Expert, or equivalent (e.g. CCIE).Position will eventually require updating certification to Microsoft's Role-Based accreditation program (as of 10/2023) with area of specialization based upon operational needs

    b. Experience


    • Required
    a) Minimum of 5 years as a senior networking systems engineer including project management responsibilities, extensive customer/end-user interaction as well as supervisory experience with systems engineers and desktop support/help desk staff as well as designing and deploying enhancements and modifications within a multi-protocol, client/server, mid-tier, Wide Area Network (WAN) infrastructure

    b) Exceptional technical knowledge and organizational skill in researching, planning and managing various IT projects and initiatives; ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to convey technical information to technical and non-technical audiences; strong interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills

    c) Experience working in a team environment both as a member and a leader; must possess a detailed understanding of automated systems hardware and software, best-practice policies and procedures as well as fundamental business principles and processes in an automated environment.


    • Desired
    a) Experience supporting technology, network, and security solutions in an industrial or manufacturing environment.

    b)

    Familiarity with Utility-specific enterprise applications including:
    SCADA, DCS, GIS, CIS,CMMS and other relevant automation technologies

    c) Familiarity with the Purdue Model for ICS Security.

    d) Process automation via scripting (e.g. VBscript, Powershell, Python)

    c. Training Levels


    Personnel in this category are fully qualified at Grade 9 with an appropriate BS degree, MCSE or current certification, and five years of experience.

    The following training levels and years of experience are established for personnel who are not fully qualified:

    Grade 9a - Three tests from MCSE or completion of current equivalent, appropriate BS degree or acceptable combination of education and experience and four years relevant experience

    Grade 9b-Two tests from MCSE or completion of current equivalent, 3/4 appropriate BS degree or an acceptable combination of education and three years relevant experience

    Grade 9c - One test from the MCSE or completion of current equivalent, andappropriate AS degree or acceptable combination of education andexperience and two years relevant experience

    Grade 9d - AS degree or acceptable combination of education and experience

    and two years of relevant experience

    d. Job-specific Technical Competencies

    Required

    a) Broad functional knowledge of computer hardware and software platforms, network topologies and solutions architecture including Microsoft Windows Server 2016 and 2019.

    b) Effective management of technical professionals, IT strategic planning, quality/process improvement and basic principles of business administration; basic knowledge of electrical circuits, power distribution, electrical code, network cabling standards

    c) Knowledge of RF fundamentals applying to wireless networking technologies, propagation characteristics and antenna installation techniques and practices

    d) Ability to manage/maintain Cisco routers, switches, ASA firewalls, VPN and VLAN connectivity.

    e) Ability to troubleshoot TCP/IP errors/issues; configure and support Relational Database Management and connectivity via ODBC; manage and support enterprise email (MS-M365 or current version at time of posting), enterprise backup and recovery software, web filtering and email scanning software,and current wireless networking technologies

    f) Ability to make quick decisions based upon large amounts of information from multiple sources in order to protect the security and integrity of the IT and OT infrastructure

    g) Ability to visualize a conceptual image of a project, then develop a plan for its implementation, and execute the plan

    h) Ability to manage a variety of complex tasks/projects simultaneously

    i) Ability to use MS Office products at an advanced level of proficiency

    e. Special Licenses


    • Required
    a) Valid Driver's License from state of residence

    b) Microsoft Systems Engineer Certification or current equivalent

    c) Cisco CCNA Certification


    • Desired
    Cisco CCNP Enterprise Certification
