    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

    Works under the direction of the Workplace Wellness and Safety Senior Manager to assist the Wellness Coordinator with the development and implementation a comprehensive fitness/wellness program for City employees and may provide personal training and nutritional support to enhance employees' fitness and development.

    Assists in designing, scheduling, and leading various exercise/fitness classes. Monitors and trains employees in safe and effective exercise techniques including proper use of City equipment.

    Helps in promoting health management and fitness programs that foster healthy living and supports services such as screenings, predicative modeling analysis, targeted intervention programs for disease management, and health awareness activities that encourage weight reduction, exercise, and nutrition programs.

    Fosters change to emphasize preventive health maintenance in the City of Memphis organizational culture. Assesses the wellness/fitness needs of employees and suggests fitness schedules and/or new wellness initiatives. Maintains appearance and security of the fitness center. Promotes employees' continued and increased use of the fitness center. Assists the Wellness & Education Coordinator with special events and health and wellness programs that support total preventive health.

    TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
    Must be able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing. Requires the ability to operate general office equipment such as a personal computer and telephone. Requires the ability to lead exercise classes and demonstrate proper use of excercise equipment.


    TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
    Majority of work is performed in the fitness center including exposure to exercise equipment that can be potentially dangerous

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Bachelor's degree in any health fitness, physical education, or health-related field and two (2) years experience in fitness training to include experience leading exercise classes, such as kickboxing, Pilates, and step aerobics, and utilizing intermediate knowledge of fitness/exercise technique, health and wellness; or any combination of experience and training which enables one to perform the essential job functions.

    Must possess or obtain CPR and First Aid certifications within initial six (6) months of employment and must maintain certifications as a condition of continued employment.

    Must be available to work extended hours early in the mornings and/or late in the afternoons as needed. Education and experience in the field of nutrition is preferred.
