    OVERVIEW

    S&B is actively searching for an experienced Process Engineer III to join our team in Kingsport, TN. The Process Engineer III independently performs Process design activities for all phases of process development and plant design for a small project or selected segment of a larger project. Must be fully competent in performing all conventional aspects of Process design and application of independent judgment for the evaluation, selection and substantial adaptation of standard Process design methods and procedures. Assignments have clear and specific objectives, which require periodic evaluation by a more senior engineer.     SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

    May provide some technical to designers and less experienced engineers or specialists..

    EDUCATION

    Normally requires at least a four-year degree in Chemical Engineering.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Approximately 3-6 years of experience in chemical process design or a related functional area required.
  • Must be proficient in developing piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Must be capable of performing process calculations of basic to intermediate complexity (pump and line sizings, utility usage estimations, etc.).
  • Must be capable of interpreting and applying client engineering standards.
  • Self-driven and able to work under limited supervision.
  • Good interpersonal skills; capable of interfacing directly with the client.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Experience with pressure relief design/calculations is a plus.
  • Experience using Pipe-Flo Advantage or similar software to perform hydraulic network analyses is a plus.
  • TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Works with the client to develop detailed scopes of work for capital projects.
  • Develops piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), line lists, and tie-in lists.
  • Conducts field trips to gather operating data and equipment information.
  • Designs / evaluates overpressure protection systems for new and existing equipment.
  • Provides process information and design guidance to other engineering disciplines.
  • Participates in process safety reviews.
  • Prepares routine technical reports.
  • LANGUAGE SKILLS

    Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of clients, managers, designers and engineers.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

    Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    Occasionally, will conduct or participate in a field trip to an operating plant or construction site. This requires normal hearing, the ability to stand, walk, reach, climb and balance, clear close and distance vision, depth perception and the ability to focus. Lifting up to 25 pounds may be required.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    Normal work environment will be a business office with moderate noise. Occasionally, may visit or be temporarily assigned to work in an operating plant or at an construction site. This may require exposure to outdoor weather conditions, loud noise, work near moving mechanical parts, electrical energy, construction equipment, vibration, fumes, chemicals and airborne particles.
