    This job is a member of the Developer Platform Product Team within the Information Technology Division


    Responsible for leveraging cutting edge technology to solve business problems at American Airlines by participating in all phases of the development process from inception through transition, advocating the agile process and test-driven development, using object-oriented development tools to analyze, model, design, construct and test reusable objects, and making the codebase a better place to live and work.


    This position is for a thoughtful, empathetic, and experienced software development professional with knowledge of UX best practices and hands-on experience with interaction / visual design, information architecture, user research and UX strategy.

    You'll wear many hats and be responsible for bridging the gap between UX designers and software development peers.

    You will need to be able to conceptualize, prototype, and present a variety of UX deliverables while also being responsible for developing and delivering these solutions to end-users.

    What you'll do


    Collaborates with leaders, business analysts, project managers, IT architects, technical leads and other developers, along with internal customers, to understand requirements and develop needs according to business requirements.

    Influence UX design and product owner decisions based on best practices, design principles and research

    Be able to explain design recommendations by citing best practices, research data or business requirements

    Develop the visual style, interface and interaction flow of applications and experiences

    Advocate for the user and collaborate with UX designers to develop features and flows that align with the user's needs and is technically feasible

    Mentor developers to ensure front-end applications meet accessibility guidelines and best practices

    Maintains and enhances existing enterprise services, applications, and platforms using domain driven design and test-driven development.

    Troubleshoots and debugs complex issues; identifies and implements solutions.

    Creates detailed project specifications, requirements, and estimates.

    Researches and implements new technologies to enhance current processes, security, and performance.

    Supports the development of coding standards and adheres to best practices and security guidelines.

    Works closely with software architects and technical leads to ensure decisions meet long-term enterprise growth needs.

    All you'll need for success

    Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

    Bachelor's degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, Technology, Information Systems (CIS/MIS), Engineering or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience/training

    2 years of full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) experience designing, developing, and implementing large-scale applications in hosted production environments

    2 years of professional, design, and open-source experience

    Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

    Master's degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, Technology, Information Systems (CIS/MIS), Engineering or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience/training

    5 years of full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) experience

    Experience as a UX practitioner with a background in user experience design, interaction design or similar

    Airline Industry experience

    Skills, Licenses & Certifications

    Proficiency in TypeScript

    Strong understanding of user-centered design principles and a solid grasp of trends in web and app design

    Experience in responsive, adaptive and accessible designs

    Proficiency and demonstrated experience in many of the following technologies:

    Database and persistence frameworks:
    PostgreSQL, Object/Relational Mapping, Query performance tuning

    Cloud-based development: Kubernetes, CNCF Open-Source Projects


    Web Services:
    REST (JSON/WSDL/XML)


    Frameworks:
    Python FastAPI, Node Expres, Kopf

    Front-end: Angular, React


    Build/deployment tools:
    Git, Jest, Jasmine, Yarn, Pipenv

    Other Dev Ops Toolchain:
    Selenium, Artifactory, SonarQube, Slack, GitHub, GitHub Actions, ElasticSearch, Logstaash, Kibana

    Proficiency in object-oriented design techniques and principles

    Proficiency in Microsoft Office Tools (Project, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)

    Experience in Agile methodologies, such as SCRUM or Kanban

    Experience in DevOps Toolchain methodologies, including Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment
