    Reed McClure was founded in 1890 and is one of Seattle's oldest law firms. We are seeking a litigation legal assistant, or hybrid litigation paralegal/legal assistant, to fill a position open due to retirement. The position is full-time (37.5 hours) Monday through Friday.     Position Summary:

    The candidate will provide administrative legal support to two or more attorneys. This person is responsible for organizing and maintaining digital case files, exhibits, and notebooks. Additionally, the individual may create, organize, and retrieve legal documents and assist with the preparation of case materials. The ability to maintain confidentiality of client and firm matters is a must. Litigation experience with Washington state courts is required; local, and federal court experience a plus.

    Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

    This position involves repetitive and recurring work situations with occasional variation from the normal to a moderate degree of complexity. Employees must be able to perform all duties with minimal supervision. Overtime may be required during periods of high workload.

    • Litigation experience, preferably with experience in insurance defense.
    • Proactive, highly motivated individual to assist with all aspects of the litigation process including: preparation of pleadings, discovery, and other legal documents as needed.
    • Ability to communicate with attorneys, clients, and vendors in a professional manner.
    • Support assigned attorneys by monitoring and maintaining their calendars and apprising them of upcoming deadlines.
    • Open, organize, and maintain case files in ProLaw, including, docketing, digital filing, profiling of documents, and updating data.
    • Draft correspondence and other communications and proofread, revise, format, and finalize documents to be filed or served.
    • Knowledge of court rules (FRCPs, Federal Local Rules, and Washington State Local Rules.
    • Experience with electronic and physical filing of documents in Washington State Superior Courts. Experience with U.S. District Courts and Oregon District Courts a plus.
    • Familiarity with PACER and other state court electronic records databases and experience with interacting with court personnel.
    • Scheduling messenger service, process servers, court reporters, etc.
    • Delegate and coordinate with other legal staff on projects, mail, and other in office support needs.
    • Preparation of, or coordination of, attorney working documents/notebooks and court material, arbitration/mediation material, and trial material as necessary.
    • Work with and provide coverage for other staff during times of need, such as heavy workload, planned absences, and unplanned absences.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

    • Exceptional attention to detail.
    • Demonstrated experience understanding litigation procedures and court rules (local, state, and/or federal courts) required.
    • Familiarity with basic office policies and procedures.
    • High degree of technical skills, including MS Office products required; ProLaw experience a plus.
    • Ability to operate standard office equipment, such as personal computer, multi-line phone, copy machine, etc.
    • Ability to maintain digital filing and recordkeeping systems.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to communicate professionally with all levels of a law firm from attorneys to reception and clients to vendors.
    • Ability to work independently and collaborate with others as a team in a collegial manner.
    • Reliable, regular attendance and the ability to work overtime as needed.
    • Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under time constraints to meet deadlines.

    Experience:

    Three or more years of litigation experience or combination of education and experience which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job.

    Compensation and Benefits:

    The pay range for this position, in the State of Washington, is $70,000 - $80,000. The base compensation offered may vary based on skills and overall experience. This information is provided per Washington's Equal Pay and Opportunities Act and is based on market location.
