Description

SAIC is seeking a highly motivated Principal Software Engineer to join a dynamic and mission oriented team. The engineer will conceptualize, develop, and implement complex cloud systems designed to meet client requirements. This position is remote.

The candidate will support the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Office of Space Commerce (OSC), requires system integration and cloud management for the Traffic Coordination System for Space (TraCSS).

The TraCSS will be developed to help relevant US government agencies to begin re-assigning many aspects of space traffic management (STM) and space traffic coordination (STC) serving non-military US space operators.

TraCSS is the Department of Commerce's enterprise solution for ingesting, archiving, processing, and disseminating Space Situational Awareness (SSA) data and products.

TraCSS will provide conjunction analysis and warning services to commercial satellite owner/operators to foster economic growth and technological advancement of the U.S.

commercial space industry.

The system will store data from the Department of Defense (DOD), NOAA, commercial SSA data providers, commercial and civil satellite Owner/Operators (O/O) and select international civil partners.

Job Description:
Design, develop and maintain computer software.
Gathering user requirements
Defining system functionality
Writing YAML configuration files and developing REST APIs.
Provide software development support that will support the development of a Software Factory
Utilize AWS scripts/services (e.g. S3, Lambdas, Step Functions, SQS, SNS, Cloudwatch, API Gateway) to scale and deploy code.
Participate in software requirements, code reviews, and test plan reviews
Ensure clear and thorough code and design documentation.

Collaborating with team members to plan, estimate, and write clear user stories / acceptance criteria, and communicate effectively on Teams, Zoom, etc.

Qualifications


Required Education:

Bachelors and nine (9) years or more experience; Masters and seven (7) years or more experience ; PhD or JD and four (4) years or more experience.

Desired Education:
Bachelor's degree in computer science, or related IT field from an accredited institution.


Required Experience:
Experience in operational deployment, troubleshooting, and issue resolution preferable in a cloud environment (AWS, EC2, S3, DynamoDB, Lambda).
Familiar with open-source and cloud-native software
Have experience with various languages, such as Java, C/C+, Python, Go, JavaScript, and SQL.

Experience with DevSecOps, familiarity with Scrum, and familiarity with and use of issue tracking and collaboration tools (e.g., Jira) for software application and development tracking.

Experience developing, deploying and running containerized services using Docker, Kubernetes, and Argo Workflows; supporting authority to operate; using a continuous development, continuous integration pipeline; tracking and documentation.

Experience effectively maintaining a version-controlled code repository using modern tools (e.g., git)
Good written and communication skills
Experience working successfully with a distributed team

Desired Experience:

2-5 years' experience with Terraform, Jira and Python backend integration
Experience developing and executing continuous integration tests (e.g., Bamboo, Jest, Ava, Mocha)


Citizenship:
U.S. Citizenship is required for this role

Target salary range:
$50,001 - $75,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
