    Surgical Technician Position at Detroit Medical Center

    Job Description & Requirements

    Summary Description: Under direct supervision, the Surgical Technician assists the surgical team in various duties in the OR and related areas.


    PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Scrubs on all types of operating procedures.
    • Handles surgical instruments, sutures, and sponges.
    • Maintains aseptic technique and patient observation in the OR.
    • Prepares for operative procedures and maintains OR cleanliness.
    • Assists in patient transportation and positioning.
    • May assist as a second circulator and participate in educational programs.
    • Performs other assigned duties.

    Qualifications:

    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Completion of surgical technician training program.
    • Certification by the Association of Surgical Technologists preferred.
    • 1-2 years of surgical technician experience preferred.

    Skills Required:

    • Interpersonal skills for effective communication.
    • Physical stamina for standing, walking, and lifting.
    • Manual dexterity and visual acuity.
    • Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy.
