The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is a forty-one bed acute care setting for medical or surgical patients
The medical PICU APN will work as part of a team to provide coverage to high acuity pediatric ICU patients following acute respiratory failure, acute kidney injury, bone marrow transplant, kidney transplant, septic shock, burn injury and trauma, among other diagnoses.
In this team structure, they will provide direct patient management which includes participating in patient care rounds, ordering/interpreting lab tests, analyzing and prioritizing complex data, developing differential diagnosis and implementing plans of care.
These tasks will be done in direct collaboration with a board-certified pediatric intensivist.The APN will be expected to work effectively with the medical team by communicating clearly with families, working well with physicians and physician trainees, being a resource for nursing staff and collaborating with multiple subspecialties that function in the medical PICU.
The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse I (APRN-I) provides comprehensive, evidence-based advanced practice nursing to address the physiologic, psychosocial, and developmental needs of patients and families within the framework of the collaborative practice agreement.
The APRN-I participates in beginning leadership, evidenced-based practice/ research, and organizational development activities with the support and direction of an experienced APRN mentor.

This position is not eligible work remotely, which means that the person hired will be required to work onsite at one of our Children's Mercy locations and may not work from home.
