About the Job:
This position provides Psychiatric services and supervises mental healthcare providers within the Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice.

Responsibilities of the Psychiatrist will include:

assuming responsibility for clinical services including diagnostic evaluations, medication management, and individual/group/family therapy, as appropriate, working with interdisciplinary treatment team members to develop and implement treatment plans for assigned patients, identifying most appropriate plan of care and medication to address presenting problems and monitors medication regimen regularly, using feedback from staff and resident to determine necessity for adjustment to treatment plan, and providing education to treatment teams, medical staff, BSU, and other stakeholders in an effort to support and reinforce residents' adherence to medication protocols and engagement in their healthcare.

Eligibility for telework is contingent upon the needs of the facility. The Psychiatrist may be approved to telework up to one day per week. A review of the applications will take place on a continuous basis. Minimum Qualifications Comprehensive knowledge of current psychiatric practice and trends related to child and adolescent psychiatry. Ability to provide psychiatric care to DJJ youth that meets community standards. Ability to supervise and manage the clinical practice of physician extenders providing mental healthcare. Additional Considerations License from the Virginia State Board of Medicine. Current DEA license with no restrictions. Completion of an approved residency in general psychiatry and completion of a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
