    Description

    The City & Country School is New York City's preeminent progressive nursery through eighth-grade school. Located in the West Village and founded in 1914 by progressive education pioneer Caroline Pratt, C&C's unique program uses social studies as the anchor for the academic program. Her vision that we learn from children remains our guiding principle. Teacher autonomy and flexibility are fundamental tenets of the student experience; each faculty member leads the development of a dynamic and ever-evolving program that centers around developmental stages and students' interests.

    We look to strengthen the collective educational experience of our students by examining the entire arc of the academic program and vitalizing throughlines in the curriculum. Reporting directly to the Principal, the Director of Curriculum will work closely with all faculty, division directors, school leaders, student support staff, and the school's Education Committee, to guide this work.

    Responsibilities

    • Partner with faculty, division directors, and the Director of Community Life, Equity, and Inclusion to strengthen alignment and continuity throughout C&C's academic program for ages 2 through 13
    • Serve as a resource and thought partner for teachers and teaching teams
    • Consider the collective 2s through 13s program from an anti-racist lens
    • Collaborate with faculty and support curriculum development
    • Partner with faculty, Division Directors, and the Office of Community Life, Equity, and Inclusion to support healthy identity development in students 2s through 13s
    • Explore the scope of the entire program with an eye for continuity and academic throughlines
    • Partner with the professional development committee and division directors to design PD that supports teachers in the ongoing work of curriculum development
    • Support cross-divisional and cross-curricular conversations centered around progressive education, teaching practices, and curriculum
    • Communicate externally and internally around consistency and continuity in our pedagogy and practice Requirements
      • Strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, as well as a proven track record in implementing anti-racist programming with students and adults
      • Strong leadership skills centered around relationship building, collaboration, and flexibility
      • Experience in a leadership position at a school
      • Deep understanding of progressive pedagogy, curriculum development, and teaching practices
      • Relevant experience teaching/leading a wide range of student ages, preferably from nursery through 8th grade
      • Collaborative leadership style
      • Requisite experience using Google Apps and Microsoft Office Applications
