    Description


    The position is full-time with benefits and can be remote with potential travel to WA or relocation if you wish.

    Under limited supervision, this position is responsible for performing technical transmission planning functions including development of power flow base cases, conducting contingency analyses, evaluating analysis results, modeling and evaluating alternative solutions to mitigate identified issues, performing transient stability simulations, ensuring compliance with NERC/WECC reliability standards and recommending capital projects based on planning study results.

    Essential Functions


    • Develop long range transmission plans in compliance with NERC Planning Standards, WECC System Performance Criteria, and company guidelines.
    • Develop and/or update PUD's transmission planning processes and guidelines related to transmission system planning.
    • Perform engineering analysis of future transmission projects and requirements.
    • Maintain an effective level of expertise in the use of power flow, transient and voltage stability, and other related applications to perform transmission planning duties.
    • Perform transmission system feasibility, system impact and other studies related to load service and generation interconnection requests.
    • Conducts or directs consultants in performing study work on the PUD's transmission system.
    • Participate in regional transmission planning meetings with WECC, regional planning groups, and other utilities.
    • Develop and retain expert level knowledge of the PUD electric transmission system configuration, electrical characteristics and its interaction with the interconnected network;
    • Train and mentor junior engineers on transmission planning principles.
    • Performs related duties as required or assigned.

    o Ensuring supervisors are monitoring the safety actions of their teams (such as completing safety training, reporting incidents timely, etc.).

    o Being viewed as a safety champion by stopping work if necessary, promoting safety activities (Continuous improvement team processes, Safety & Health Improvement Plan (SHIP) activities, etc.).

    Bachelor's Degree in an engineering field, electrical engineering with a power systems emphasis preferred.


    • Minimum (5) years of experience in transmission systems planning.
