    Job Description

    This is a professional public works engineer position with primary work assignments focused to
    provide complex turnkey project management, including securing grants and funding, fiscal
    management, planning, team coordination, public involvement, design and construction management,
    and planning monitoring and maintenance activities. Incumbents provide lead and technical civil
    engineer support to other workers and departments Tribal wide. Must show the highest professional
    standards and promotes a positive image of the Tribe and its administration at all times. Must have
    strong customer service skills and the ability to defuse tense situations while maintaining a
    professional demeanor. Must be culturally sensitive to a diverse customer population and able to
    interact tactfully and positively with Tribal members, all levels of tribal staff and management.
    Perform other duties as assigned to promote the efficiency and effectiveness of the department.

    • Complete complex civil engineering design and project management duties as it relates to all
      facets of civil engineering land development/design
    • Must be able to manage civil engineering land development designs from the planning, zoning,
      and permitting stages through the completion of full sets of site/construction plans
    • Must make well-informed design decisions based on their knowledge of civil engineering
      concepts and locality requirements
    • Ensure the quality of all work completed through QA/QC reviews of all project work produced
    • Present projects to clients, local jurisdictions/governments, and the public at formal and informal meetings/events
    • Daily coordination with internal and external engineers, architects, clients etc.

    Knowledge of:

    • Principles and practices of capital improvement projects, including new streets and sidewalk installations,
      fiber optics, traffic control, landscaping and lighting, and flood drainage
    • Theory, principles, and practices of civil engineering design and construction; principles and techniques of
      management and supervision, including goals and objectives development and work planning and
      organization
    • Principles and practices of contract administration and project management and evaluation
    • Principles, modern techniques, and equipment used in design, construction, and maintenance of various
      projects
    • Strength, properties, and uses of construction materials
    • Legal guidelines for public works engineering
    • Grant funding application and administration
    • Constructions materials, principles, and practices
    • Advanced mathematical principles
    • Applicable Federal, State, and local laws, codes, guidelines, rules, and regulations

    Skill in:

    • Operating multi-line phone systems
    • Using a computer and related software applications


    Ability to:

    • Manage projects
    • Perform complex mathematical calculations
    • Organize, evaluate and comprehend technical data
    • Analyze problems and make appropriate recommendations
    • Prepare construction-related drawings
    • Interpret and analyze engineering plans
    • Plan, organize, supervise, review, and evaluate the work of professionals and technical engineering

    • Communicate and use interpersonal skills to interact with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc., to
      sufficiently exchange or convey information and to receive work direction

      CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
      Must have at time of hire and be able to maintain a State of Idaho Professional Civil Engineer License (PE) or an
      equivalency through state reciprocity.
