    Position Title: Research Associate

    Location: Cambridge/Waltham, MA

    Intro

    We are building a manufacturing platform that can generate any organic molecule from carbon dioxide, water, and electricity. By incorporating our novel microbe into a gas fermentation process, we aim to radically improve the way we produce common products, starting with fats and oils for food. Guided by our core value of urgency with care we are on a mission to promote resilience in the face of climate change while evolving how we care for ourselves and the planet.

    How You'll Make an Impact

    As a research associate, you'll be performing hands-on laboratory work, constructing new bacterial strains, and improving the methods by which they are built. Your contributions will be instrumental in improving our microbe's performance. In this role, you will be a champion of lab safety and SOPs. You will be undeterred by technical challenges and strive to find new ways to propel Circe to success.

    What You'll Do

    • Perform all aspects of molecular cloning, including but not limited to primer design, Gibson Assembly, PCR, and transformation.
    • Design and conduct experiments.
    • Research genetic targets and strategies for improving strain performance.
    • Troubleshoot technical hurdles.
    • Collaborate in team meetings and in the laboratory on cross-functional projects.
    • Support general lab activities, such as making media and pouring agar plates.
    • Analyze, interpret, and present experimental data in weekly technical meetings.
    • Diligently record data using electronic laboratory notebook.

    What You Will Bring

    • BS or MS in microbiology, molecular biology, cellular biology, biochemistry, or related field (required).
    • Demonstrated hands on experience with a variety of molecular biology techniques, including PCR, Gibson Assembly, Transformation, Plasmid Isolation etc.
    • Aseptic technique proficiency.
    • Ability to accurately follow written SOPs and verbal direction.
    • 2+ year wet lab work experience (preferred).
    • LIMS experience (preferred).
    • Rigorous attention to detail.
    • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
    • Flexibility and resilience in a fast-paced work environment with determination to meet goals.
    • Eager to learn and retain new concepts quickly.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills both verbal and written.
