- Experience: Operating room experience preferred. PeriOperative101 required for applicants with no experience.
- Performs the perioperative nursing role to include preoperative assessment of the patient, nursing care plan formulation, operative care plan implementation, and postoperative evaluation of the patient's response/outcome. Also evaluates the effectiveness and appropriateness of nursing care provided with documentation of such.
- Demonstrates understanding and utilization of principles of asepsis in all duties.
- Assists in the setting up and performance of cases by opening of sterile packs, instruments, and supplies according to sterile technique.
- Assists in the setting up the procedure/operating room by gathering of equipment and supplies needed for each procedure.
- Prepares each patient for surgery by:
- positioning the patient in the appropriate position
- preparing the patient's operative site
- confirming the procedure and site according to the surgical consent
- helping move the patient to and from the operating table.
- Assists anesthesia personnel with the intubation/extubation of patients, the monitoring of fluid volume balance, the administration of blood/blood products, and the thermo-regulation of the patient.
- Performs surgical counts (sponges, sharps, and instruments) and documents nursing care in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Handles specimens according to proper procedure.
- Assists in the clean-up of the operating room following surgery, including proper disposal of used supplies and sharps.
- Assumes responsibility for intra-operative patient safety related to positioning activities, the use of equipment, and the use of chemicals and solutions.

- Education/Certification: Graduate from an accredited school of nursing. Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Wisconsin required. Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certification required. CNOR certification preferred.

- Graduate from an accredited school of nursing. Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Wisconsin required. BSN preferred

Monday thru Friday with flexed start times ranging from 0600 to 0830. Mandatory weekday/weekend/holiday call obligation of one day per week, every 6th weekend. The holiday obligation is also covered by call shifts. 0.8 FTE. Full time.The Operating Room Circulating RN manages all the necessary care inside the surgery room, assisting the team in maintaining and creating a comfortable, safe environment for the patient and observing the team from a wide perspective. He or she must ensure all surgical team members perform in a unified effort. The Operating Room Circulating RN is responsible for the coordination, delivery, and documentation of patient care during the intra-operative phase of care. The nursing role during this phase focuses on providing safe quality patient care through adherence to policies and procedures, and standards of practice for perioperative nursing. He/she will also monitor compliance to established best practice standards, policies, and procedures during the entire patient surgical experience.
