    Position Summary

    This position monitors production and the equipment assigned, controls instruments and ensures both control instruments and make sure they're working properly

    Essential Job Functions

    • · Monitors recording instruments, flowmeters, panel lights, or other indicators; listens for warning signals; verifies conformity of process conditions
    • · Monitors instruments to ensure proper production conditions
    • · Regulates or shuts down equipment during emergency situations, as directed
    • · Control or operate chemical processes or systems of machines, using panelboards, control boards, or semi-automatic equipment.
    • · Operate chemical processing or water treatment systems or equipment.
    • · Move control settings to make necessary adjustments on equipment units affecting speeds of chemical reactions, quality, or yields.
    • · Inspect operating units, such as towers, soap-spray storage tanks, scrubbers, collectors, or driers to ensure that all are functioning and to maintain maximum efficiency.
    • · Inspect production equipment.
    • · Draw samples of products and conduct quality control tests to monitor processing and to ensure that standards are met.
    • · Test chemical or physical characteristics of materials or products.
    • · Patrol work areas to ensure that solutions in tanks or troughs are not in danger of overflowing.
    • · Monitor equipment fluid levels.
    • Record operating data, such as process conditions, test results, or instrument readings.
    • Record operational or production data.
    • Turn valves to regulate flow of products or byproducts through agitator tanks, storage drums, or neutralizer tanks.
    • Adjust equipment controls to regulate flow of production materials or products.
    • Interpret chemical reactions visible through sight glasses or on television monitors and review laboratory test reports for process adjustments.
    • Analyze test results.
    • Confer with technical and supervisory personnel to report or resolve conditions affecting safety, efficiency, or product quality.
    • Confer with others to resolve production problems or equipment malfunctions.
    • Start pumps to wash and rinse reactor vessels, to exhaust gases or vapors, to regulate the flow of oil, steam, air, or perfume to towers, or to add products to converter or blending vessels.
    • Operate pumping systems or equipment.
    • Gauge tank levels, using calibrated rods.
    • Notify maintenance, stationary-engineering, or other auxiliary personnel to correct equipment malfunctions or to adjust power, steam, water, or air supplies.
    • Calculate material requirements or yields according to formulas.
    • Estimate material requirements for production.
    • Repair or replace damaged equipment and replace worn equipment components.
    • Defrost frozen valves, using steam hoses.
    • Repair production equipment or tools.
    • Abides by all safety procedures and practices applicable to location and position; participates in appropriate safety training; demonstrates commitment to and support of EHSS principles and values; champions safety
    • Performs other duties assigned by management that generally fall within the expected scope of this position

    Experience Requirement

    • Experience in plant operations preferred
    • Minimum of 3 to 5 years' experience in field operations in a petrochemical or similar industrial environment
    • Experience in waste water and water treatment preferred
    • Experience working in a safety critical environment
    • Ability to read, interpret and follow written and verbal job instructions and directions
    • Ability to read, interpret and follow manuals and other regulatory documents as applicable
    • Ability to read and understand safety procedures, including OSHA standards and regulations
    • Basic mathematical skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; ability to work with fractions and perform various mathematical conversions commonly used in petrochemical industry
    • Understanding of general business concepts
    • Must be able to work varying and/or rotating shifts
    • Experience working with Federal, state and local environmental regulations including RCRA
    • Good computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite; ability to use database systems and other programs and applications used by this position and at Company
    • Fluent in English language including reading, writing and speaking; ability to read and write at a minimum of high school level; ability to clearly communicate to all levels in organization
    • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and follow through on assignments

    Education Requirement

    • High School Diploma or GED required
    • Applicable occupational or military certifications preferred
    • Technology degree helpful, Associate's degree in Process Plant Technology preferred

    This position requires an employee to be exposed to outside elements. Most extreme elements are heat in the summer months of up to 100°ree;+ and some exposure to cold of generally no less than 0°ree; in the winter months. There will be exposure to various chemicals and compounds, including fumes and smells, some of them hazardous. The employee will enter confined spaces and work in elevated environments. Employee must be able to wear PPE required by the location. Loud sounds and vibrations will be experienced at times. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. All environments are safe with appropriate PPE.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk (sometimes over long distances), crawl, sit, speak, and hear. The employee is required to stand, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; the employee will be required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee will be required to climb ladders and storage tanks up to 350' in height. The employee will be required to enter confined spaces and crawl under rail cars or trucks. The employee will lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Employee may be required to travel by car, truck, rail, air, or other vehicles.
