- Provide support in the areas of landscape and mitigation drafting, design, and specification writing.
- Provide review support of consultant design work and contractor submittals.
- Analyze, interpret, and apply federal, state, and local laws and department policies to ensure program and project compliance.
- Author, coauthor, and review environmental documents in support of permit applications, which may include SEPA Checklists, JARPA forms, Critical Areas reports, Biological Assessments.
- Review, interpret, and apply provisions of approved plans, technical and environmental documents, permit conditions, special provisions, and/or specifications during active construction.
- Provide construction support and field inspections related to temporary erosion control (TESC), mitigation and landscape elements.
- Support emergency responses including, but not limited to infrastructure damage, roadway flooding, landslides, and damaging weather events.
- Work as a team member to support Environmental Unit staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- A bachelor degree in landscape architecture.
- Aptitude to support the County's anti-racism and pro-equity agenda and a proven and action-oriented commitment to evolve self-awareness of racism, racialized systems, positional power, privilege and the realities of race and other socially defined categories (such as gender, gender identity, etc.).
- Ability to work under tight deadlines, as well as, in harsh field conditions, often in inclement weather, hazardous or enclosed spaces while performing physically demanding tasks in the field.
- Skills in reading and interpreting landscape architecture and engineering plans, specifications (preferably WSDOT Specifications), drawings and technical maps, and documents.
- Knowledge of local/state/federal environmental regulations and review processes, plus local/state/federal permitting and approval processes.
- Knowledge and experience with King County native plants and hardy ornamentals.
- Knowledge and experience with heavy construction practices and associated safety requirements.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated team building skills: ability to collaborate, work, resolve conflicts, and make decisions in a team environment.
- Skills using AutoCAD, Bluebeam Revu, Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, ArcMap, and Adobe Acrobat Pro.

Summary
The Department of Local Services (DLS), Road Services Division (Roads) is looking for an enthusiastic Landscape Architect/Designer (Engineer II Classification) to join the Environmental Unit (EU). This Landscape Architect/Designer position provides multiple services, including landscape architecture and mitigation project review, design, and construction oversight for a variety of transportation infrastructure and maintenance projects. The position also provides environmental documentation and permitting support for Roads' capital improvement and maintenance projects.
Job Duties
The work associated with this position will be performed on-side and (hybrid). Employees will be provided with a County-issued laptop and cellular device and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours. Employees must reside in WA state within a reasonable distance of their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements. There will be situations where the employee is required to report to a County worksite. Please note that when an employee conducts work that is likely to bring them in contact with another individual, safety precautions are required by the department in alignment with the from the Seattle & King County Public Health Officer.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
King County is the local service provider for the roughly quarter-million people who live in the unincorporated areas of the county. Taken together, the population in unincorporated King County would be the second-largest city in the state. The Department of Local Services includes a Director's Office and the Road Services and Permitting Divisions. The Director's Office includes a robust Community Service Area group focused on identifying and responding to the needs of urban and rural unincorporated King County residents and business. The department provides a single executive point of accountability for delivery of local services to all unincorporated areas.
ABOUT THE DIVISION
Unincorporated King County is home to roughly a quarter million people. Millions more use the roads to access jobs and recreational activities in urban and rural King County. The Roads Services Division is committed to ensuring the county's road system is safe and efficient for all uses and modes of travel.
The division is faced with a long-term structural funding problem, yet is responsible for 1,500 miles of roads and 182 bridges, 5.7 million feet of drainage ditches, over 44,000 traffic control signs, 78 traffic signals, and 50 traffic cameras in unincorporated King County.
