Primary Function

The position will perform clinical nurse duties 85% of the time and supervises and coordinates activities of nursing personnel in patient care units 15% of the time. The Analenisgi Outpatient Nurse Supervisor will work in coordination with the nursing and clinical leadership in the Behavioral Health departments for the common goal of efficient and effective patient care. The Nurse Supervisor provides first-line support for nursing staff, physicians and other related providers on specific clinical issues. The Nurse Supervisor is generally a long-term role, requiring proficient clinical, interpersonal, and time management skills. The Nurse Supervisor collaborates with the Behavioral Health Nurse Manager on clinical and non-clinical issues (employee relations, individual behaviors, physician relationships, etc.). The BH Nurse Manager will also work with other Nurse Supervisors under the BH Nurse Manager to coordinate patient care across the entire inpatient and outpatient CIHA system. The Nurse Supervisor is the support for the Behavioral Health Division when the Behavioral Health Nurse Manager is unavailable. The Nurse Supervisor is responsible for supervising, directing, coaching and mentoring their assigned core group of staff. Job Description

• Utilizes evidenced-based practice models to identify, incorporate or develop best practices for behavioral health including care of patient populations experiencing psychiatric and substance use disorders. Collaborates with other teams to share and establish best practice for health promotion and disease prevention strategies.
• Assists the psychiatric and consulting providers in coordinating care of patients that results in meeting facility, national, and regulatory quality indicators.
• Expected to fulfill the duties and responsibilities of staff under the direct supervision of incumbent when necessary, in addition to being a resource for those staff in the inpatient and outpatient clinical setting.
• Expected to coordinate methadone dosing within the Opioid Treatment Program according to CIHA policy and procedure in addition to federal requirements.
• Mentor/coach staff to enhance their professional development.
• Plan and coordinate clinical requirements for staff and ensure that all competencies and requirements for staff is current utilizing best practice models to identify, incorporate or develop best practices for panel management.
• Provide clinical/education updates and skill check-offs to staff on a regular basis.
• Provides immediate support and education on policy, procedures, equipment and supplies.
• Facilitates staff performance audits/quality checks related to attitude, team performance, as outlined by the Behavioral Health Nurse Manager.
• Responsible for learning, implementing and teaching new technology/procedures.
• Demonstrates awareness of current problems and basic plan for all patients within the Analenisgi outpatient setting.
• Collaborate with the Behavioral Health Nurse Manager in the interview process for new applicants.
• Responsible for coordinating orientation of new staff in the Analenisgi Inpatient setting and initiating and tracking competencies throughout the clinic staff as designated by the Behavioral Health Nurse Manager.
• Consult with preceptors and orientees on a regular basis to provide support and determine how orientation should proceed on an individual basis.
• Assesses the performance of assigned new hires and orientees including all team members and provides ongoing feedback and coaching.
• Plan and assist with coordination of clinic staff schedules and submit for manager approval. Incumbent will act as a liaison for staff when the Behavioral Health Nurse Manager is unavailable (weekends, holidays, etc.) to request unscheduled leave and will be responsible for coordinating coverage with available staff.
• Provides clinical consultation and guidance as needed to facilitate patient care.
• Delegates responsibilities within the scope of practice and validated competencies in order to meet the workload demands of the shift.
• Coordinate clinical requirements with staff regarding equipment and supplies, including inventory and overseeing maintenance requests.
• Understand and communicate potential clinical equipment or supply issues to appropriate team members (Materials, Biomed, Sterile Processing, etc.) and Behavioral Health Nurse Manager.
• Collaborate with the manager for issue resolutions and projects to improve workflow processes throughout the department utilizing a quality improvement/LEAN approach.
• Collaborate with different departments (pharmacy, radiology, lab, patient registration, Inpatient, ER, etc.) to resolve issues and improve workflow processes throughout the department.
• Promotes an atmosphere of open communication that facilitates staff input into decision-making, resolution of conflict, quality improvement and collegiality among all health team members.
• Facilitates and encourages staff participation in departmental/interdepartmental and hospital quality improvement efforts and committees by developing incentives to promote positive working relationships to boost morale.
• Attends interdepartmental and hospital committee meetings as assigned or delegates this role to available team members.
• Coordinates, facilitates, participates and directs departmental projects with follow-through and appropriate follow-up.
• Other projects and duties as assigned by the Behavioral Health Nurse Manager.

• Associates degree in nursing from an accredited program required.
• Bachelor's Degree in nursing from an accredited program preferred.
• Current Basic Lift Support (BLS) preferred, if not must be obtained within six months from hire date.
• Four years of nursing experience preferred.
• One year of behavioral health experience preferred.
• Must obtain other department required certifications through the facility following 6 months of date of hire, which include Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum (TNCC), and Emergency Nurse's Pediatric Course (ENPC).
• Must have a valid North Carolina driver's license.
