    Job Summary


    The Managing Software Engineer will lead a team responsible for software design and development efforts for the Enterprise Payments platform which is focused on delivering new payment capabilities. The individual in this role collaborates with engineers, designers, analysts, and testers to deliver high-performing high-quality software products in an agile setting. This individual will lead the development of the Payments platform used by the enterprise.

    The Managing Software Engineer architects and designs their digital products using modern tools, technologies, frameworks, and systems. The individual will apply a systematic application of scientific and technological knowledge, methods, and experience to the design, implementation, testing, and documentation of software. This leader will own and manage running their application in production, and ultimately become accountable for the success of their digital products through achieving KPIs. The Managing Software Engineer plans, directs, designs, and executes IT-related activities and programs that are of a complex and critical nature. This individual selects, leads, counsels, motivates, sets expectations, and evaluates medium to large teams. Additionally, they confer with and advise direct reports on issues, risks, problem resolution, and priorities.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Lead the effort of shaping the architecture and design of the product.
    • Develop software and lead a team of 8-10 engineers.
    • Participate in product scoping, discovery and framing, and inceptions providing technical input and helps translate user features into system design.
    • Lead and participate in inceptions and iteration planning meetings, infusing backlogs with technical input working in close partnership with the digital product manager.
    • Lead and participate in daily ceremonies including product team standups.
    • Lead collaboration and strategy alignment across product portfolios (cross-product) in partnership with product managers, other peers, and key stakeholders.
    • Serve as an expert on multiple business domains and a distinguished advocate of multiple technology stacks. Share that knowledge across organizations.
    • Coach and develop a high-performing team, empowering engineers, and driving impactful outcomes.
    • Serve as the anchor of the team and practice technical leadership. Guide the team in choosing the right technology, solving technical problems, and resolving any technical conflicts within the team.
    • Establish continuous integration, continuous delivery, and continuous deployment pipelines and technical best practices within the team.
    • Lead and participate in knowledge sharing and contribute to the overall growth of the collective knowledge of the Engineering community.
    • Evaluate engineer skillsets, set development plans, and strengthen technical and product knowledge within the team.

    Functional Skills

    • Hands on experience with software development and accountability architecting, designing, implementing and delivering large scale distributed systems and/or applications for the cloud, including microservices architectures
    • Strong Java development skills preferably with experience in Spring
    • Experience and knowledge in developing REST APIs including tooling for documentation (Swagger, REST-docs, OpenAPI spec), versioning, service discovery/registration, testing and management; experience using API gateways a plus
    • Experience with data modeling and familiarity with XML and JSON schema standards
    • Experience in backend development design and implementation; database (relational, NoSQL, caching), distributed messaging systems, security best practices, performance analysis and tuning
    • Knowledge using distributed version control systems (git), artifact management systems, build and packaging systems (maven, gradle, npm, artifactory, etc.) and continuous integration tools (Jenkins, TravisCI, Concourse, Bamboo, GoCD).
    • Experience developing continuous integration, continuous delivery, and continuous deployment pipelines for distributed apps
    • Experience working with containerized technologies such Tanzu Application Service (formerly PCF) or AWS, Docker, and Kubernetes a plus
    • Experience working in an agile work environment across organizational and geographical boundaries
    • Strong knowledge of payment processing and payment integrations preferred

    Education and Experience

    • 4 year Bachelors Degree (Preferred)
    • 7 or more years of experience (Preferred)
    • In lieu of the above education requirements, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

    Compensation offered for this role is $102, ,000 per year and is based on experience and qualifications.
