- Plan lay out and perform operations to make and construct, alter and repair diversified types of tools, dies, jig, fixtures, holding devices, etc.
- Work from drawings, sketches, sample parts and job requirements when drawings are not available.
- Perform tool room machining operations requiring varied set ups, tooling, use of machine attachments, etc.
- Make single and compound dies to blank, pierce, draw, punch, notch, bend and shape tool parts and other associated operations to close tolerance requirements.
- Perform bench operations to file, fit, dress, scrape, lap, assemble and adjust. Make machine set ups, tool try outs, corrections, obtain approvals. Perform heat treating and tempering operations.
- Knowledge of mathematics, trigonometry, and handbook formulas
- Knowledge of machine shop practices, principles of mechanics, and machine tool operations
- Ability to work from complicated drawings and specifications
- Knowledge of working qualities of various metals, and other materials
- Ability to perform bench and machine operations accurately
