The QuickTakes consumer mobile app (available in the iOS and Android app stores) offers college students an easy and effective way to increase their understanding of their course lectures with the help of a personalized AI assistant.     About the Role

    This is a remote position.

    Ability to work Noon-8pm (Pacific) most work days.

    Open to full-time or contract work.

    Edkey is looking for an experienced and highly motivated Product Designer to create world "class" core user experiences in both our established and future products with our small but creative design team. The ideal candidate will be an integral member driving and iterating on features throughout the entire product lifecycle, from strategic discovery to high-fidelity prototypes. You'll serve as a strong advocate for users and set a high bar for crafting intuitive, accessible, and beautiful experiences. We're looking for someone who has experience managing product design efforts for education technologies and mobile applications in a startup environment, focused on a global scale. Experience architecting UX and delivering highly strategic business initiatives is a must.

    You'll work with our collaborative team, conducting user research and user interviews, provide support for multiple product teams and work closely with engineering counterparts to ensure clarity and consistency of user experience, designs and documentation through the build process. This role may also be called upon to support product launch activities as well as user acceptance testing in addition to driving the implementation of a holistic design methodology for our global suite of products.

    Responsibilities and Duties

    • Gather insights into customer motivations, pains, and behaviors to solve complex interaction problems.
    • Clearly communicate and present research findings and design rationales to business stakeholders and globally dispersed team members.
    • Identify and understand our user types, their behaviors and the pain points of their user journeys.
    • Produce detailed documentation and artifacts including but not limited to; design system, wire frames, user journeys, data flows and user experience flows, prototypes and high-fidelity designs.
    • Work in a fast-paced environment, with short feedback loops.
    • Synthesize feedback and direction from the Product Management team into actionable designs for engineering counterparts.
    • Comfortable working flexible hours as needed to accommodate an overseas engineering team (Hong Kong).
    • Remote meetings with potential users, active users and other stakeholders in Asia Pacific region required during 4-8pm Pacific time.

    Ideal Experience and Work History

    • University/college degree
    • 4+ years of relevant product design and/or UX design experience with B2C and B2B2C products (prefer some EdTech experience) with a proven track record of building beautiful UI/UX and understanding customer's needs.
    • Experience across a variety of platforms, including mobile (iOS and Android) and web.
    • Expertise in user-centered design methodologies.
    • Prior experience implementing design systems and processes.
    • Conduct actionable user research, from field visits to analytics, to inform design and product decision.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while working with multiple teams in a highly collaborative environment.
    • Experience working in an agile development process.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Experience using common tools of the product design discipline including Figma, AdobeXD, Sketch, etc.
    • Previous experience in product development.
    • Portfolio requirement: a web-based portfolio + resume that showcasing your design skills, thought process, and product impact.
    • Nimble and adaptable-be comfortable with rapid change and thrive in a fast-paced, early-stage startup environment
    • A positive, can-do attitude. You're not deterred by minor setbacks and are able to swiftly overcome ambiguity.
    • You believe feedback is a gift. You can thoughtfully share feedback to others as needed, and you can receive feedback and grow from it.

    We're a remote-first company, but work hours are generally within the Pacific Time zone (7 hours behind UTC). We get together in-person quarterly as a team in California, but as long as you're able to maintain significant overlap with Pacific hours during the workday and evening meetings with Hong Kong (where our engineering team resides).
